This isn't a hate post. Actually the example is PGI's own balance on the Small Pulse laser compared to the Small Laser. I've commented and made a thread about pulse lasers before. The one that people seem to think is the best pulse weapon is the small pulse laser.

-Same range.
-.25 lower cooldown.
-Heavier tonnage.
-And of course trademark short duration.

So could we perhaps get a similar balance on the rest of the pulse weapons?

Changing a few of the stats won't fix it. It should be an entirely, 100% different weapon.


Pulse lasers and Beam lasers should NOT have the same firing mechanic at all. The reason they suck is due to the fact the only thing that differs between them is a shorter beam duration. It needs to be completely reworked from scratch.

If its going to be the same mechanic, duration time needs to be much shorter so it concentrates damage much better than a standard laser. Make it somewhere in between the DOT of a standard laser and the burst of a PPC.

I'd like to think of pulse lasers "bang for buck". Trading range/heat/weight for firepower.

However as the large pulse is right now.
Weighs as much as a ******* ppc. Offers almost no extra damage. Generates ridiculous amounts of heat.

Make the heat the same as a LL or make the weight the same. Not both!

That would balance it out perfectly IMO. The range keeps them being a niche weapon for specialist builds.

What would help is rebalancing from the basis of weighing as much as a standard laser of the same class, but let's face it that won't happen because of the sacred cow that is stock builds.

Without that, the optimal starting point is probably making their range equal with that of the normal lasers. As it stands they pay more than enough in tonnage and heat for the increase damage/decreased beam time and don't need to be punished more on top of that. Range is the easiest to change.
