As I prefer piloting light 'mechs, I naturally see this as a problem. I simply have less to choose from than someone preferring the other weight classes.
It's been eight months since we saw a new light 'mech (the Spider arrived on Jan. 15th). Yes, I know we'll get the Locust in a month's time, but nine months between light 'mechs is a very long time.
I agree! Its Urbie time!

And this one for after the clans hit.

Really want to do the Phoenix pack since I finally rejoined the work force but I need to see how the Direct x 11 going to run on my system as well as something on cw or the UI2.0 with map voting. If I see no performance hit with direct x 11 will pull the trigger. Can't justify 80 bucks if it not going to playable I would have to change out graphics card I am running HD radeon 7770 and 3.2 ghz quad core AMD, I hope since the 7000 cards do direct x 11 better than direct x 9 I wpn't loose performance.
Could care less for the locust would sell mine just hate 20 ton mechs, the shadow hawk was one of my favorites in mechwarrior 1, thunderbolt would really like and of course the battlemaster. Love my Heavy Metal and the 2 other highlander I have but it's the only assault I own have catphract and quickdraw, cent and treb with hunchback and founder jenner ,sara jenner, the k ,and the f and the borked Spiders and that is it. Before the cbill nerf i could earn enough in 2 weeks time to buy a new chassis was going to go victor then once I had 3 master out grab orions but with cbills for a win going for 75000 to 175000 it taking a lot longer to earn up the cbills and that not counting the cool shot use per game if 40000. It really sucks to be a mechwarrior right now The big rub is to own the 6 mechs I wanted I would had to buy mc of 15.00 to have enough mech bays with some extra. In doing the cbill nerf they saved me 15.00 and lost 15.00 I wonder how many people that did the same thing.
By the way assault mech I would love the KING CRAB (never be done in any mechwarrior game)but probley would be the Banshee ( was done in battletech online game from EA i think that was the one they pulled the plug on .

So, they skipped over the light mechs and went back to mediums and heavies.
As for the extra mediums we're going to get, well that is more down to sheer dumb luck than anything else. There just happened to be 3 medium mechs that became legal again with the project phoenix (technically there would have been 4, but MWO is probably not going to have quad mechs for a long time, if ever).
Personally I am all for more medium mechs. They're supposed to be the most common mechs you see in the lore, so having more of them in the game to play with makes a sort of sense to me.

There is 1 'timeline' variant even on the very page you linked the WLF-1 and really because of the limitations of the game only the WLF-1B would actually be in the game. Personally I see nothing terribly compelling about it either, it would have 5 energy hard points similar to the equally heavy Jenners with 4 or 6. The Panther at least has a completely different profile.

Light pilot here also so what light Mech would you like to see introduced to the game?
I'd love to see a humanoid 'mech with fully articulated arms and jump jets - ideally a Wasp or Stinger (but yeah, I know, Unseen). More realistically, the Panther or Firestarter, perhaps the Javelin.
We have enough chicken-walkers with the Jenner, Raven, and the upcoming Flea; time to give us another humanoid light to complement the Commando and Spider.

Urbanmech is effective. Absolutely terrible mech.....if your a NOOB who's "TALENT" is every easymode cheese mech, can't think for his damn self, and has no notion of what cover is.
The beauty of it too is that urbanmech will train a better pilot then any other mech.
Every map has cover and can work with urbanmech. Terrain-wise.....the places where urbie would get killed are the same places any other mech would get killed too.
If it comes down to tonnages/drop ship modes.......I rather get three urbanmechs to one assault.
And then you guy are judging STOCK URBANMECH Vs YOUR custom cheesemech.
With a spider you can almost....ALMOST make a STOCK urbanmech. The real deal would be better.
And who keeps a stock mech? Its going to be a souped-up Urbanmech.
We are talking endo/ferro with armor about as much as a HEAVY dragon, ECM, 360 torso twist, jump jets, small profile......
How much does Urbanmech cost? 1,471,925 C-bills Let me just round that UP to 1,500,000
You can field 1 highlander let me round that DOWN for 8 million...... I got 5 urbanmechs....... you lose that battle......you lose that battle 9 times out of 10 times.
And guess what.....you've wandered into our lance of urbanmechs and we now have a taste of highlanders......and we've communicated with each other.......and said......highlanders taste good.....lets go get some more highlanders.....
We devoloped a system to establish a beachhead and aggressively hunt you and your faction.....
