I agree, Dark Age went a little too far in the "blown back to the dark age" thing. If it was closer to the Jihad I could see it reverting THAT much, but come on.

There's one book in the Dark Age series that does peek at the future showing the true end result of the Smoke Jaguars. Can't remember exactly what all was covered in that Epilogue. ie if they got the network up again.

Would like to see the Star League come back and the return of true 'Mech production.

Also, still can't believe they made the Jihad blow up Outreach!

Comments like that will get you banned from this website and the only "Battletech" games you will ever be able to play again will be Mechassault. Enjoy.

Human nature is to behave peacefull and intelligent soon after each other possibility was tested and failed. Therfore, war will be a constant in the BT universe for quite some time to come. And where do you make your villains more evil and your heroes even more heroic than in conflict, battling with either Mechs or tanks or chainsaw-somethings or even sticks and stones?

An alien invasion, well, that would be some sort of possibility to spice things up, but then again I don't like to see Star League to be turned in some sort of Federation with lots of enterprises swarming space and each of the "good'" ones loving each other.

I can accept the story up until the point after the Inner Sphere counter attacks the clans and Smoke Jaguar is destroyed. Although fondly i tend to cut it off when Comstar fights the clans and wins a break in the war. Despite the fact I dont like Comstar very much lol

right so battletech becomes earthseige/starseige, starseige becomes star trek which inevitable becomes star wars which then goes on to become starship troopers (somehow) it then breaks down to flash gordon only to end up being the actual fact based history of humanity prior to being stranded on earth, the system works

that gave me a nose bleed

The end of Battletech lore? I'm pretty sure the 'Mech tech is going to pick up again. They'll get back on par with Jihad era technology and then the 'Mechs will get faster and pointier, the engines bigger and bigger! Eventually we'll have an Atlas upgrade so big and so spiky, that it's reactor will breach when it accidentally jabs itself on the armor of a lancemate!

The resulting explosion will be so massive that it wipes out the entire Inner Sphere.

Edit: They'll call it the Stackpolcalypse. :(

End? We need no ends. First we have to complete the large white space between exodus and the end of the third succession war.
I think to the Jiihad was only a spark in comparison with the atrocitys we have to face when the first source books of the era first and second succession war will be available

There is true 'Mech production in the Dark Age. There wasn't any real technological decline during or before it...

Outreach is still around, unlike some less fortunate worlds like Gibson and Circinus.

I like MW-DA... :( , at least the novels (yes, even the first ones with Texas Chainsaw Massacre a la MechWarrior

Nonetheless, lore ends for me, when that Jihad s***storm begins. I'm sure I wouldn't be annoyed by the idea of the Jihad, if there had actually been some novels covering the topic, but I haven't seen any. MW-DA is something completely different to me, as long as they don't close the time gap in a tasteful way...

It will end as it always ends...

The mechwarrior blinked, the other mech had her dead to rights, but there is was past her. Not a moment to lose, swing around and- where were the control sticks? Where was the cockpit? Who?

I WONDER IF THERE IS ANY HOPE OF MOVING THIS ALONG. I REALISE THAT THIS IS ALL A BIT STRANGE FOR YOU BUT YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE KEEPING ME VERY BUSY TODAY AND I FEAR THAT THERE JUST ISN'T THE TIME FOR THE NORMAL WHO ARE YOU WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'M DEAD DISCUSSION.

The mechwarrior blinked at the large skeleton, next to it was a small urban mech, approximately half human height and apparently constructed from bone. Instead of normal weapons it carried a long pole with a large blade on the end. On the side of the mech was written in lettering as black as space, "The Death of Mechs".

The end.

I liked Far Country, it was fairly well written, took place who knows where, aliens were not some technological powerhouse(spear chucking savages actually who worshipped a Locust mech since it looked like them). It portrayed an unstable merc lance, a professional special forces team and some very good mechwarrior/Swiss Family Robinson action. Would I like them to bring aliens into the regular universe, not really, but the way this book made them in some far off unexplored area of the galaxy, accessable only by a rare unreparable error in the jump drive, means they will not ever rejoin the normal universe. It even had a LAM which was awesome and the LAM spectacularly ran out of jet fuel midair. As far as I have read, this was the first and only novel to actually include a LAM.

As for the future, I really havent done much reading past the Fedcom civil war and the Liao invasion of St Ives. I stayed away from the Jihad stuff as having been on the recieving end like many military people, not a fan of religious fanatical war, especially in my battletech hobby. The Dark Age stuff is a neat way to pull things back together and I look forward to seeing where the game universe goes afterward especially involving my favorite faction the Hanseatic League and a few of the other Periphery powers. Be neat to see them rise up out of the ashes faster than the major powers.

Strange, I thought more people knew the answer to this.

The official end of the BattleTech era can be traced to when the Marian Hegemony develops the anti-gravity tank, which will replace the BattleMech as the supreme armored fighting vehicle. With this technology they will conquer Terra and establish a new galactic empire. Over the course of many years they will colonize the galaxy and encounter many alien races. Things will go very well for them, until a particularly hostile race invades, at which point the empire will return to their Marian/Roman roots to repel the aliens. They will then elect a new Caesar and form the Terran Overlord Government.

There's actually quite a lot of FASA source material for the 69th Century, so clearly the BattleTech era ends sometime in the next 3000 years from the present point on the MWO timeline.

MW-DA was IMO to kick the factions back into war after the were all friends period of Devlin Stone. It was short lived though and every faction ramped up military production faster then I think most people realize. Besides I like the bit of realism that DA added, when war began again plowshares became swords, but that doesn't happen overnight. As for the end, well "War, war never changes" there is still a lot of unexplored territory. Aliens though? Please NO. This is about mech on mech action, I don't think the community needs or wants little green men.
