Basically, the mech is so hampered by terrain because of weapon placement and lack of JJ, and so easy to kill due to a barn-door CT, it really just feels like it's vastly inferior to other heavy mechs.

By others, you mean the Cataphract 3D?

The Victor is pretty much a straight-upgrade to the Orion. It can jump, has more armor, has a smaller CT, can shield its body and use its arms as shields, can often go faster, and can carry AC/20 or dual UAC/5 at the same time as an XL engine. It's like PGI doesn't even care about mechs being "viable" anymore; they just want to push out cash cow robots now.

Jagermechs have very high-mounted hard points to give them superior terrain use as well.

True, but you mentioned Jump Jets, so I immediately thought of 'that' particular Heavy that could jump.

The Orion is a walking coffin. The only way to play it is very carefully, while hiding behind your teammates. That huge CT is worse then the Awesome's. I'm not joking when I say I feel more confident in My Trebuchet then the Orion. I do a hell of a lot more damage in My treb' as well, since I can actually get out there and fight in it without fear of insta-dying, unlike the Orion.

And yes, anything the Orion can do, the Victor can do better.

Not true, the Victor makes a very poor missile support platform.

I use the Orion all the time and it's pretty good. You guys should play different mechs to get ready for drop limits.

Yes, the Orion CT is over-large for any reasoning. I know there is always balance, but the Orion lacks the hardpoint options of lighter heavies so it can't really exploit alot of ACs. It can carry LRMs, but still the CT is instant death at any range or angle. It manuvers like an oil tanker as well, even with the 300 engine.

So too many negatives for just a heavy mech. The low manuvering itself implies it would have a smaller center torso than the Cataphract or Jagermech which also get much better hardpoints under MWO's present weapon balance.

There are a few good setups that the orion can do that the Victor cannot do quite as good.

They mostly involve very generic brawler setups tho. Sadly.

Are you sure, you have already unlocked the elite efficiencies for the Orion? Because you might have for the Cataphract. Since the 2x bonus is a total game changer (feels like a whole class down), please xp out your Orions before crying about that.

If you already have, you might not find much of a difference between the Cata and the Orion in terms of maneuvers.

Its just an all or nothing mech.

Because it cant jump snipe and had arm mounted weapons you just have to commit to the push. It can have more firepower than other heavies and win a straight 1v1.

The problem is that "the push" usually requires people to come with you, and that can be difficult in pug matches.

Tonnage limits too, every mech will have a bit of viability once we get those.

Yeah, it's amazingly bad in a lot of ways. Can't take hits + can't ridgehump + can't jump is a really awkward place to be, and the hardpoints were not nearly as good as I was hoping they'd be.

Well, the orion is an old and pretty crappy mech lore wise.

They cant all be amazing.

Still, I find it fun to own and pilot.

Actually they all can be amazing. Every mech should be amazing. There is no reason to add a mech to this game if it serves no purpose. I'd rather have 10 amazing mechs than 50 mechs in the game with 45 of them being completely and totally useless. PGI has enough mechs in the game now and should be looking at and spending resources on adding chassis quirks and making each mech as viable as possible.

If you're complaining about that I wonder what you'd think of the Unseen Marauder. All torso, all low arms.

But.... it LOOKS cool!

But yeah. It needs a CT fix every bit as bad as the Kintaro did, yet all we get is ..............*crickets*

I'm all for making it no XL viable, if it makes the core tougher. The Orion was never designed with XLs in mind, it should be a tough, low tech scrapper that's hard to kill. Instead, all mine run 350XLs to help them slightly improve their longevity.

Lol, an XL improving your longevity.

Sadly, it's very true.
