90/100 Graphics Indeed

They are almost as good as a 10 year old Xbox game and a fan-mod for Crysis.

It was a good review, but one thing i massively disagree with, is, trial mechs being a pro point. I mean really? I have never dropped into a game (knowingly) in anything not fully upgraded. I am an experienced pilot and still get beaten often enough even in my super upgraded mechs™. The only possible way you can be close to competive, forgetting about skill, is in a fully upgraded mech.
Taking a stock mech and giving it as the only option to a noob is just plain cruel (I know that launch gave us champ trials but they will have to swap trials again soon enough). Even in a fully upgraded mech a new player is going to have a hard time, the whole stock trial thing is just salt in the wound.

I dont know why i care about this really those new guys are just more guarenteed k's in my k/d ratio. Forget all of the above everything is fine here move along!

Mechs look alright, but terrain is awful. Every time I zone into Tourmaline or Canyon Network I just look at the god awful ground/wall textures and just sigh.

Trees still look they got copy pastaed from MW4 as well.

I agree. The Mechs, barring battle damage today, are appealing to look at and the work put into their animations. Scale and 3D design from the original art can leave much to be desired. But the terrain on Alpine or Tourmaline turns into complete mud at a distance no matter the setting.

Trial mechs are for new players during the cadet period when their Elo is set to 1100 so they play against other new or bad players.

If they are facing a fully decked out splat cat in that bracket, they really aren't at a disadvantage.

Best review out so far and pretty fair. I personally wouldn't have given it such a high score for graphics... and protection points out why. The game actually used to look better. I also would have mentioned the HSR/hit registration issues which would have lowered the multiplayer or gameplay score.

But, that is just a difference of opinion... I still stick to my 5/10 score, the game is just average at the moment, I hope to one day up that score.

Agree with a lot of it but like a few people in this thread I don't see how MWO gets a 90 for graphics. The artifical haze, how browned out everything gets, low res on the pilot, fishbowl vision when view is altered.. just no the graphics aren't that impressive for a game just coming out.

I'm not sure he's playing the same game.......

His Pro's List:

Wide variety of mechs available for purchase with currency earned in-game
Impressive mech customization
Free trial mech choices are swapped out frequently
Excellent graphics
Authentic mech combat gameplay
Free to play

The first two sound great and in reality are true, but at the end of the day a large percentage of mechs and mech customization are nullified by the constant presence of an OP fotm. No point in having 20000 chassis and 10000 weapons available if only 2 chassis and 2 weapons are ever seeing use in game.

Trial mechs is a pro? Ok.

Graphics are ok for 2013...numerous posters have already covered this.

Authentic mech combat? Nope don't agree at all with that one, there is no sense of being in big stompy robots. And the constant addition of 'features' since open beta started has made the game feel less and less like MechWarrior to me....ie - ecm, arty strikes, ghost heat, 3pv......

Nothing in life is free.

I think so. I usually take out the trial mechs to see if the platform has potential for my play style. If the mech class is decent then I'll play the trial mech to get exp for that variant in case I ever decide to buy it.

For people who are limited to just the 4 mech bays, it's definitely a great way to try other stuff.
