What the heck? All the topics are so highly specialized, what if you want to talk about the game in general, or share stories, or just ask a question that doesn't fit into one of the predefined categories?

Talk about the game in general: http://mwomercs.com/...al-discussions/

Share stories: http://mwomercs.com/...m/212-barracks/

Ask questions - you're already in the right spot for that.

Probably gameplay balance, which could be anything.

We previously had an open discussion board, and it was pretty terrible.

You can't write a post without having some sort of topic. Poke around for an appropriate forum.

If you want to give feedback on recent changes, head to patch feedback. If you want to discuss gameplay issues in more general than the recent patch, try Gameplay Balance. Obviously mechs & maps and currency etc etc and such have their own place as well.

I know, it annoys me too. But PGI does not want a chat section here.

The closest thing to general discussion is either in here, or in the "Mechs and loadouts" section.

Sorry, there's no General Discussion anymore. We can only chat about the game in specific areas in the current GD... well, maybe in the Barracks? Else, you will get "kicked" to the off-topic section.

Allow me to share with you the sad, sad, story of the General Discussion forum:

Short version, first from the playerbase's PoV, then the Devs'.

Yeah PGI got rid of general discussion. It was a great info dump.

They eliminated it because there was too much backlash, as it was easier to do that than to admit they made mistakes, I guess.

All games don't have dev teams who are scared of their players. After a couple of articles about the forums erupting in revolts IGP decided that there was too much negativity and created all the sub forums so they could shunt things to places people don't usually go and keep there from being a central place to gather. Much like they design prisons. Can't have the inmates gather and discuss their grievances.
I'm sure a PGI defender will say that is was because it was too hard for them to get feedback, but PGI has on several occasions clearly stated they don't take feedback from the forums too seriously. Plus can anyone say they used said feedback?
Anyways as said most games have general discussion and allow new players to post anywhere. Then again most games launch with a non place holder UI and some form of meta game. Things are different here.
