Why some players want to walk to a spot and sit on it completely eludes me. Is it because they are so unskilled at combat they need to "win" with a cap in order to dredge up some sort of sad satisfaction? I have no idea.
You need an "objective?" Fine. Instead of instant victory, capturing the enemy's base, or point-of-interest, or whatever, should yield a gameplay advantage that provides support to your team. It could even be pretty major - enough to assure a victory, if not *guarantee* it.
Ideas?
You're knocking out an electronic warfare installation, or an anti-air station, or whatever. The benefits could be one or more of the following:
- All enemy mechs, as well as their facing, are highlighted permanently on your radar map, as well as the Battlegrid.
- Team commander gets access to staggered, rapid-deployment airstrikes in order to help weed out the opposing team.
- The enemy's radar can be scrambled, hiding your units from detection for the rest of the round.
- Permanent ECM can be applied to the team that caps the base.
Perhaps this could also apply to the other team if they cap YOUR base, too, so that both sides could get similar game-ending benefits at once.
If THAT doesn't sound good, then make the bases something you must attack or destroy, possibly with defenses of their own. At least make it more interesting than literally sitting to win. That's pathetic.
