Mech Walks Backwards On It's Own?

I've scoured the forums and I'm at my wits end. But here is what's happening:

At the start of any match, as soon as the start up sequence of the mech is complete and I have control of my mech, it starts walking backwards at top speed.

If I hit the "tab" key to bring up the scoreboard during a match, my mech stops all forward motion and starts walking backwards at top speed.

If I hit the "b" key to bring up with battlegrid during a match, my mech stops all forward motion and starts walking backwards at top speed.

I don't have any joystick installed, and I am using a logitech G510, but I'm not using any macros. Nothing else I can think of that is installed that would cause this.

I had too some problems with keys getting stuck during the match. Reinstall seems to have solved them. It is also possible that you have a virus that messes with your keyboard drivers.

Do you have a dual language unicode pack for your computer for windows? I was having the exact same issue as you were in my LRM Stalker, until I realized that the issue was being caused by me hitting Alt + Enter during the match, which was activating my Japanese IME language input. I doubt that's the same issue for you though.

Bottom line is it's probably an issue with Windows rather than MWO, does it persist even if you quit and re-start up MWO?

Nope, no dual language inputs. And it happens at the beggining of every match, even if I don't press anything.

Well I'm stumped.

Try running the Repair Tool?
http://mwomercs.com/...public-release/

Be sure to back up any custom configs (Like your FOV) before running it though, otherwise it's gonna delete them all and you'll be reset back to defaults.

Delete weaponsgroups xml (you'll have to re-do every weapon group in each mech you own this way), if that doesn't work, wipe your user folder so that you have to rebind everything and configure graphics settings again, that should solve it.

I've experienced groups firing without control, mechs spinning right or left without any way to stop them, and so on, the above fixes them.

Also, be sure no joysticks are connected (and thus making your mech move somewhere else).

Thanks all. I'm running the repair tool right now, and it's found a few things that need "Fixing" so I'm gonna let that run and re-visit this in the morning. (it's 5am here now) If that doesn't work, I'll give John MatriX82's suggestion a try.

Thanks again.

Unfortunately, neither of these remedies worked. :)

Still walking backwards whenever match starts and looking at map/scoreboard

I had an issue where the mech would get stuck turning, at first I thought it was my kb but I never had any problems typing. That has stopped recently but I still occasionally stop moving when opening the battleground.

I agree with haruko that it's likely a Windows issue or at least some other program that's running. Maybe try creating a different user account, then disabling all the background programs, ie stop Adobe/Office etc from pre-loading, kill Java update checker etc. and then run MWO as diff. user and use that account and see if the problem persists. I plan on it, but I work in IT so when I get home I just want to play on the PC and not "work" in it unless I am just in the mood.

I also suggest trying a different mouse and keyboard if you have one handy! I occasionally get a 'stuck key syndrome' with A or D (causing my mech to turn out of control) but tapping that key a couple of times fixes it just fine.

Check what inputs you have on the reverse throttle key and remove that aren't the S key (assign like the 1 key , then assign it back to the weapons group, and you're good). I wouldn't be surprised if there's not something else stuck.

Also, if you have any special mouse drivers or keyboard drivers, I'd un/reinstall them or check and make sure they're set properly.

It's probably not a keyboard issue as keyboard and mouse input usually stops when you hold tab or go to the map, so chances are something is acting like a joystick.

Oh another try: be sure to have one single type of keyboard in your windows installation. The above issue sometimes happen to me when I have in my taskbar more than one language; somehow either windows or the game itself changes my keyboard from IT (italian) to EN (english).

It happens that windows, browser, whatever is set on IT keyboard, but somehow MWO's window switches itself on ENG when it goes fullscreen (or in the mechlab), so basically my inputs freak out.

This may be it. I've just checked and I've got two keyboards listed in my device manager. Plus a ton of devices listed in my "Human Interface Device" category. I'm just going to yank them all out, restart, and see what happens when I reboot.

Thanks again for the help. Appreciate it. :)

Probably you simply have to get rid of that second keyboard language, the rest maybe will re-install itself as soon as you'll reboot; I still have my english keyboard, I've just made sure that italian it's the default for everything and it's a lot of time I don't have any issue.

Okay, finally found the problem. Turns out there *was* a joystick plugged in. It was sitting behind my computer on the floor and I don't even remember plugging it in.

I feel like an *****.

But thanks again for everyone's help. :)
