Going to make this brief...........
I think the weapon ranges are generally in a pretty good spot. I'm confused about a couple things though. In TT, PPC was THE long range energy weapon. Came at the cost of high heat and a lot of tonnage.
In MWO though, the PPC's top range is anemic. 540m? In TT the PPC had the same range as the AC5. It's odd because the 540m MATCHES with the TT in comparison to the medium laser and AC20, but versus the AC5.... it's shorter? The ER PPC and Gauss rifle were the long range kings (top range was 22-23 hexes), but both came with significant drawbacks (a LOT of heat and/or a LOT of weight and crit weakness). LRM's topped off at 21 hexes.
So my question.....
Why is LRM 1000m versus 810m for ER PPC and 600+ for Gauss? I know there's supposed to be a little extra for the travel arc, but generally, I'm seeing a target at 1000m fair game for LRM's. All in all, weapon ranges seem a bit.... short.
Proposal:
PPC max range increased to 600m (closer to AC5, but not by much)
ER PPC max range to 900m (closer to TT)
Gauss range increased to 850m (closer to TT)
Leave LRM's at 1000m
At long range, these shots take some skill as it is. Reward that skill.

You do realize those ranges aren't max ranges except for the LRM's which self destructs at 1000 meters, the rest can and do damage from further, even the PPC can shoot to 1080 meters (not very effective tho).
You are confusing ideal range with max range values.

If anything I disagree with LRM ranges and they should just make them infinate range.

*Infinite
Also, I presume by infinite you just mean within the context of the MWO Map sizes?
I've seen 'Mechs nearly 3,000m away which is way over the range LRMs had in the TTG (21 Hexes or 2,100m I presume)
It's 1,000m in MWO for balance purposes and we can't have "LRM Boats" just sitting on the spawn point the entire game.
I never fire them at targets over 700m anyway

The moment I see LRMs getting a significant range buff is the moment I am switching to my LRM80 Catapult...

TT hexes are 30 meters, so LRMs in TT have a max range of 630 meters. TT weapon ranges are painfully short for many weapons, especially ballistics. Just as an example, a modern M16-series rifle has an effective range of 300 meters (you can shoot past that, but your accuracy goes to the toilet). A modern infantry rifle has a max range of 10 hexes, meaning it outranges an AC20, and has triple the range of a half-ton machine gun. And don't get me started on how the range on an M2 compares to TT Battletech weapons.

only reason to increase lrm range would be to allow lights to get locks, and buff their xp bonuses, while I understand lrms range being somewhat weak I think increasing lurms would cripple balance.
most weapons including PPC's the original topic header out range them and ac2 have double the range
