I agree!
In my book, "metagame" would be something long-term to do besides doing small, disconnected some-minutes team-deathmatches. Teleporting into a mech on the battlefield, shooting some other mechs until a counter reaches 12 or 750 and than magically teleporting back, and doing that over and over a thousand times a year... that's no metagame. It's really nothing more than a "quickstart skirmish mode".
Faction warfare, large maps you can travel without the need for combat, walking around on foot in your base, actuelly having a human avatar, etc... that's what's needed for metagame and to call the game "complete".
Take a look at star citizen, they are doing it right.

It was the reason I payed for this game since it would be the only thing any other mechwarrior game didnt already have.

Actually the other MW games had this. The players created it and ran leagues. Even megamek has this. Lobbies and private matches and the community takes care of the rest

Indeed. In the past developers gave the players the tools to create their fun. Imagine if PGI didn't even think about CW and just focused on those player lobbies, allowed players to setup map/match restrictions. PGI would be able to focus on the important things like balance and making money while letting the players do all the work with leagues.

Just look at the Marik Campaign. This league is going strong and super fun. Just need more teams

So, if I understand this correctly, "have patience" is the new "it's a beta"?

Yup. "Have patience" = "Dont worry, be happy- someday they'll actually show us a trace of actual work on what they've been promising, but consistently failing to deliver, since before Closed Beta."
