Seriously though, those barrel openings are what 1.5m? 2m? You could stand straight inside one of them - what are they supposed to be? And more importantly why make them so incredibly oversized?

I mean I suppose that they're supposed to be the Heavy Gauss Rifles, but come on.

Clans. They're cheesy even art-wise.

That's...ah....that's a Lyran mech. Just sayin.

And, in the interests of staying with the theme of the thread, what they're supposed to be is, quite clearly, compensation. For other things that might not necessarily have as impressive a...calibre. Like I said, Lyran mech.

you must be new to Battletech. By Btech standards, those are pretty average. Look at the Centurion's forearm, or the Hunchback in the TRO. Or the Victor.....

In his defense, TRO artwork is more or less without exception dreadful.

Ayup. My bad.

I blame the fact that I totally stopped paying attention to new 'mechs when the Clan cheese arrived, and that the Fafnir is a TRO:3067 'mech.

Give me 2nd edition and TRO:3025 and I'm a happy MechWarrior ;)

Point well taken ;)

Yes, sure I'm new to BattleTech - I've only played it since 1985, so I missed the first year when it was called BattleDroids ;)

But those... cavernous maws... on the Fafnir really are something else. The Cent and the Hunchie have oversized Autocannons (the Hunchie's is probably the most ridiculous - it must be close to a metre in diameter...), and the Victor also has an AC/20 on that arm, but the Fafnir makes them all look downright puny :(

hmmm, it appears you missed the good nature ribbing of my comment. Point is, ridiculous muzzles seem part and parcel to Battletech since it's inception.

Ever seen a Hollander- that's some fine Lyran over-compensation right there!

Nothing says I'm feeling inadequite like a giant Gauss Rifle sticking out of a Light Mech...

I thought I was giving as good as I got? All in good fun, my friend, all in good fun ;)

And yes, I agree, ridiculous is BattleTech's middle name ;)

My Heavy Gauss brings all the boys to the yard,

And they're like

It's bigger than yours,

Damn right it's bigger than yours,

I can breach you,

But I have to charge

Hang on one cotton-picking minute... The Fafnir with its giant... chest is Lyran, and the Hollander with its giant... Gauss Rifle is *also* Lyran?!

Those guys need some serious therapy, the lot of 'em..

After manufacturing, they looked upon the Commando and said "Wait, where be the giant genital shaped weaponry?"

We've already established I'm a bit* loony due to my predilection towards piloting light 'mechs in general (and Commandos in particular), so it's small wonder I like the 'mando if it's from the loony Lyrans. So I stand by my previous statement. Serious therapy. All of them :)

* for large values of "bit".

hmmmm. I may have misjudged. This level of immaturity seems to point more closely to a sub 12 year old.
