I'm colorbind so I'm SOL?
Charge up sound needs to be adjustable - even if it is by user.cfg only.
Anyway, got insta gibbed last night by a dual gauss jager in my commando.
When before I laugh as I engage gauss boats, now I think twice... Better pilots have now learned how to time the gauss charging correctly.

For me personally, yeah it hampers me in certain situations, but in others the mechanic is a non-issue and the speed improvements make it better. Its a wash really.
Personally I just see it as yet another barrier to entry for new players into the game. So I despise it for that and think it should go.

I don't care anymore myself. I just don't use it, well you can't use it with a joystick since the mechanic was only looked at from the standpoint of Mouse users who can drag-click pretty effortlessly. Ever try drag-clicking with a joystick? No? I didn't think so.
That's okay though, I never used the Gauss Rifle in MW3 and never missed it. My stats keep improving so there is the proof the Gauss Rifle is and always was overrated.

LIES!! I know I played at least two games with you and one of those games were some time last week I do believe on Terra Therma. I was grinding out my second Victor that just so happened to have a Gauss and I was taking pot shots at you with it.

I've liked PPC/Gauss combinations since long before I started playing this game, and stuck with it even before PPCs were good, even after the steady heat increases, Gauss health nerfs, etc. I don't care about the meta and while I did a little jump-sniping, it was never really my thing.
The most recent ERPPC heat nerf was bad enough, but the latest Gauss nerf was just too much. PGI basically said "no, we don't like your playstyle." And to that, I say screw you.

You know, since the patch there have been a lot fewer Victors running around. Mine has been sitting idle in its hanger like a neglected concubine.

It was untouched, though.
It is better than ever before, but it has that mechanic associated. You master the thing and you'll get the strongest gauss to date. You don't and the weapon's more or less useless for it's weight to effectivness ratio.
How was it untouched? You now add 0.75 seconds minimum to your 4 second cooldown! Of course the DPS is lowered!

Well its not becasue you wrote it specially, but i have read similar - for some weeks now.
You should know that this is not the first poll nor the first topic regarding the Gauss change.
Most of you are crying about balance - not recognizing that the Gauss is balanced... look at the poll - look at the polls with significant votes...between those that like the change and those that decline it - there is a BALANCE.
Well i use the Gauss - i did use it before and i use it untli the server shut down...hell i used the combination of ER-PPCs and Gauss since i bought the first AS7-K in August 12.
To say this combination is not competive is complete nonsense, the only difference is: you are AGAIN not able to make 5 or even 6 Alpha strikes using all 3 weapons at once - you have to time your weapons (i fire them in chain - a trade of between damage and precision)
You want to hit a Jumper? Than you have to use PPCs not a Gauss. You want to place a highly accurate shot at long range - take the Gauss - and learn to deal with the change.
As said: most of my builds did use gauss before - and nothing has changed for me - (only difference is - that i thinking about removing the 3rd ton of ammunition - 20 shots seems adequate for most fights - and the charge ensure you that most of your shots will hit - because you aim much more carefull.

But mixing it with other weapons? It still works best with PPCs, since they don't have a beam duration or charge delay, and the speed difference is now even lower then before. Only drawback is the loss in DPS you take if you sync with the Gauss.
Lasers and Gauss? Uh, that sounds like a very bad idea. 1 second beam duration and 0.75 seconds of Gauss charge. I suppose someone with a macro or a mouse with more than 2 buttons and a wheel can work with that relatively okay, but still, not really user-friendly.
----
Conceptually, the idea of a sniper weapon with a charge delay is highly questionable, but that's hardly relevant, even more questionable are 100 ton walking tanks. Still, claiming that this turns the Gauss into more of a sniper rifle is just ********, that's like saying a walking tank is better suited for stealth operations than a normal tank.

The weapon itself is fine imo

Assault on Alpine, got 1 kill and 558 damage before I ran out of ammo and was last man standing.
Love the gauss rifle.

This is by far the strongest piece of ******** i ever read on these forums.
The gauss DPS is ****.. simply put. They need to reduce the cooldown to make up for the charge AND for the limiting its versatility!!! make the cooldown 2sec and i am happy.

Having played around with it, the new projectile speed was great for tagging large targets at extreme range, but fast moving lights are an absolute nightmare at range or up close due to the pre-charge. Probably working as intended there, but frustrating.
The pre-charge delay is actually a much bigger hindrance to sniping than it is to brawling, which is odd since their stated goal was to make the gauss the premier sniping weapon.
I never got into the ppc+gauss meta, but having seen the slower ppc projectiles in action they can often be sidestepped! I think the gauss pre-charge kludge is unnecessary now that the ppc has been toned down! Additionally the recharge delay needs to be sped up by at least the amount of the pre-charge delay since the dps on the weapon is pretty bad now given the drawbacks (size, weight, explodes, needs ammo).
TLDR "I think the problem was PPCs and those have been fixed. If the guass is supposed to be the premier sniper weapon the projectile speed is nice but the precharge delay is a serious handicap"

I gave it a try but it's just too damned fiddly in the heat of battle. I'm sure it's not so bad for a backseat style sniper but that's not my style.
As someone who used to run Large Lasers before the ghost heat 2 maximum nerf, it's getting more than a little frustrating to keep rebuilding mechs with an ever smaller pool of viable weapons to choose from.

On one hand I play this game a LOT and I never see them anymore. I certainly don't fear a mech equipped with a gauss rifle.
On the other hand if I put 2x Gauss on my Muro I kick complete *** with it.
So what's the problem?
I think the change needed is that the Gauss should not wipe the charge, i.e. once charged the Gauss rifle should stay charged (until fired). This would allow you to use it off the cuff but still make it harder to use in general.
