+1 For Voip Comms. Typing is too slow and people often don't see typed messages. As a light scout theres been a so many times where I've needed to call out "enemies at theta" or something but couldn't stop to type due to all the enemies shooting at me. As for public teamspeak servers that's not good enough. I need integrated VOIP so I can chat to people in my current game without any hassle or setup.

As much as I would like workable in-game comms, they are not a priority. I'd rather have CW/Clans/workable matchmaking done instead of spending time on a feature that can be duplicated outside the game. There are tons of units and groups with open TS, Ventrilo, and Mumble servers willing to have you drop with them.

Spend the five minutes it takes to download and set up the client, its not that bad and you can do other stuff at the same time. Soft boil an egg, read a movie review, watch the five good minutes of Tosh.O- after that you have plenty of options to find new people to play with.

You don't need voice comms, you simply need what Planetside 1 and World of Tanks had from day one and that's some type of quick commands that let your team mates know what's going on.

VOIP will be muted by anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together, especially if they have any experience playing FPS titles with optional voice chat.

I like these guys myself. A computer voice calling out over the radio back-up needed followed by a flashing friendly mech goes a long way. Obviously voice is needed for pugs, but some of us mechwarriors are becoming dated. Not all of us have the time to join a community and stay active.

This would be much more useful in pugs, and less annoying.

Yawn... same arguments again and again......

First: we don't NEED PGI to add VoIP. We DO need them to get this game forwarded to a real Launch quality first.

Second: GREAT VoIP already exists, in the form of Teamspeak. Use it, it's already here, it works better than ANY in-game VOIP I've ever used, and I've used plenty. It's free.

Third: I don't know where some of you people get your ideas, but nowhere, on any MWO related TS server, did I have to deal with loud, chatty kids, excessive profanity, blaring music, or any of the other excuses people use for not liking VoIP. On the Comstar servers, this simply doesn't happen, at least in my experience.

IF, and WHEN, it may happen, it's REAL easy to Mute someone. Right click anyone?

I just don't get it. If you haven't tried it, then your 'I'm afraid of the VoIP community' arguments are simply not valid. This isn't the xBox community. The 'I shouldn't need a 3rd party app' argument has some base merits, but, why try to pee up a rope?

ALL of the better, more popular Teamspeak servers have mods and admins all over the place. YOU ARE SAFE. It is OK to come out.

And last thing we need is these no-shot wonders at PGI spending time on this {Scrap}, when, whatever they might add for VoIP, won't hold a candle to Teamspeak, and take time and resources away from real game development, which this game needs badly, and right now.

Really guys, time to give it a whirl.

Fortunately they are already working on the command wheel ;)

Yeah like even old games like Half-life had voip in game and Counter-strike had those quotes even in early versions...so hard to do it in modern game right?

In my opinion, it should have been a higher priority than 3PV...but whatever. Yeah...I know Russ has mentioned it's on the "wish" list of features.

Just wanted to point out that it's just as important as 3PV if not more so.

QFT
In game VOiP definitely should have been in this game by now. It would reduce some of the complaining on PUG v Teams I would think.

We don't need such trudgery. New players would become OP and all we'd see would be new players in this game.
Do you really want new players expanding the player-base and marginalizing the problems of our matchmaker?

Just think of all that renewed interest in battletech that would bring, and how existing players who are more or less lone wolves would start spending more time in-game would be more likely to buy items. Absolutely disgusting.

Since this thread was moved from Game Balance to Upcoming Features by the mods, is it safe to assume this is a confirmed feature that will be implemented eventually? :)

Quoted for truth.
But we do need to have it in as part of the game in addition to some kind of radial command wheel. The more tools that are in the game the better.
