Does the one heat sink slot in the 295xl engine turn useless for the DHS equipped mech?
Or, can it accomodate a DHS even though DHS needs 3 'slots'?

Forgive me if this is obvious.

The internal engine slots can accommodate DHS for no additional crit-space. Each "engine slot" can hold one HS regardless of SHS or DHS. Not only that, but any DHS loaded into the engine will be full 2.0 HS instead of the external 1.4 HS.

Wrong, only the first 10 heatsinks regardless of where they are loaded are 2.0.

The in-engine heat sinks are true 2.0. External heat sinks and the ones you put in the engine slot are still 1.4.
Notice the heat efficiency difference in these builds.

Both have 10 heat sinks, but the one with 10 in-engine heat sinks has a higher heat efficiency.

With higher rated engines, you can put extra heat sinks in the engine for no crit cost, but they are still 1,4.

Hopefully this will clarify things.

Yes it can allocate a single DHS without needing external slots. If you bought a 300xl you could allocate TWO DHSs inside your engine. Why?

Because every 25 ratings of engine, you get an internal DHS (or SHS it depends if you upgrade them or not -UPGRADE THEM xD-). Past 250 you start getting in-engine extra slots, so 275 holds 1 slot, 300 two, 325 three, 350 four slots and so on.

No as SnowCrow tells you it's not true. It's true only if you reach a 250 rated engine (10x DHS working @ 2.0).

If you use a 245 engine you NEED to add an external DHS to reach the necessary 10 to make the mech move, but the latter won't work @ 2.0 but will cool @ 1.4x.

That's why is so important to reach 250 engine rating.. if you can't and you're stuck to a 245s or 225s you should make sacrifices (when possible of course) to get a 250 without external DHSs. It will cool a lot better.

Oh ok ;)

I checked in the in game mechlab too, and you seem to be correct. The extra heatsinks above 10 do not however seem to matter if they're in the engine or outside it.
