A Blackjack is the lightest mech that can put an AC20 to good use. It also has jumpjets, and is fast for having an AC20. Heat is an issue only if you use the lasers too much.

Yeah, I leveled my BJ-1 almost exclusively with the ac20 + 3 medium laser build. Using this mech to maneuver, fire, and dodge, is the usage of jumpjets that most people envisioned. They deflated this build for a bit when they had to introduce the ridiculous amounts of jumpjet shaking to rein in the legions of gauss+ppc poptarts.

My AC20 based build is a bit different; I only run one JJ and have more ammo and an extra heatsink. Here's your build tweaked to be similar to my build (mine uses a 225XL engine and a bit more armour, and I put the AC20 on the other side).

While the Gauss Rifle was my main build, with the change to the Gauss I've actually been trying to avoid the AC20 build because it's the simple and obvious change. I've found running with an AC10 or LBX10, or a pair of AC5s doesn't have the same feel as caving in a mech with a couple AC20 rounds though.

Lbx 10 can work well, you hang back using you medium lasers to melt away armour then when internals are exposed you crit them to death, can also be used to tag enemies at range for more assists.

Ac20 build is great on smaller maps but on the bigger maps lack of long range can see you dead before you've got a hundred damage, tends to be very situational.

AC20 makes most people panic a bit. Whole point of it really.

Well, now that you've posted about it kiss it goodbye! Incoming ninja-nerf in 3, 2, 1......... I like this build too, but I take all the armor off the unused arm for another ton of 20 ammo. It was a sweet build. Protip, NEVER let them know what's effective/fun, it will be taken away. Thanks, it was the last mech I had that I really liked that hadn't been shat upon, I'll miss it. :P

BJ-1 with AC20 is probably in the top 3 funnest mechs in the game. It is also an assassin and gets tons of kills, it's the only mech that has gotten me 2 8kill rounds.

Amen Ghogiel, but as soon as it gets in the spotlight, whether by whiners or braggers, we all know what happens.....

I've been using that build for quite some time. It really is a good build. I just started doing dual ac2's and 2 med lasers. Jumping over people and blasting them while u-turning is a blast.

I don't have any blackjacks but I do LOVE medium mechs and I do love ac20;s so I may have just found my next build. I can see if you are not careful that you get smoked FAST but if you use it the way this video shows it could be useful.

Sad that the HBK-4G with the same weapons, the hunch is incredibly easy to destroy. Good ol MWO hitboxes!

I think the Blackjack is one of the best mediums currently. The combination of high mounted, spread out weapons and jump jets, to go along with an appropriate profile, is pretty great.

My favorites are the BJ-1 and BJ-3, but my best matches have actually been in the BJ-1X. For some reason, if you give me a fast medium with 8 medium lasers and a bunch of heatsinks, I can sometimes make the enemy team evaporate.

This build has been popular with the NGNG crowd for a while. I still don't get on with Blackjacks though.

Other than the capability to hold and AC20 and have JJs the BJ doesn't have a lot going for it. The combo of paper thin armor and necessity of an XL engine make this guy the poster child definition of a glass cannon.

Still I think its a great ride and a ton of fun.

My $.02 on the build. Go with an xl 225 and then strip 1 JJ or some armor and get an extra ton of ammo. That way you can shoot more liberally outside of 270m.

I don't think the BJ is the best medium... but it's most certainly underrated IMO. Cent would probably still be my goto medium though...

What do you mean it's effective/fun, it's terrible/boring! Reverse psychology will save it!

If comparing to the other AC20 mediums, the hunchback can't go as fast and has limited vertical aim YLW arm is easily shot off. Cicadas are just too light to equip AC20 plus a standard engine. Haven't tried an AC20 trebuchet. IMO the blackjack is the best AC20 medium.
