Well... I figured it may be good to post a video of myself playing with LRMs. This is my first attempt to record myself playing MWO so its not terribly impressive, but it shows a lot of what I'm talking about with losing lock. In this video, I have a TAG and also BAP. Had to sacrifice 2 of the 4 MLs to fit those on. By no means is this a great build, but again, I'm just trying to earn XP with this mech while I earn the cbills to upgrade it proper.

LRMs have a minimum range of 180m. They do no damage if fired at a target within that range. You were doing this a bunch.

You were standing with your front-line mechs, rather than hanging back.
You stood still, a lot, even out in the open while the enemy was shooting at you.
You appear to be playing with a joystick... it's not recommended.
Only 3 tons of ammo for your LRMs? Need more. A good rule of thumb is to take a number of tons of LRM ammo equal to the number of tubes you are bringing, divided by 5. In your case, with 2 LRM 15's, that would be 6 tons.

Leaving tag on, all the time, may look neat, but it says to the enemy..."Hey, look at me, I'm an LRM boat! Please shoot me!"
Arm-lock really restricts your ability to maintain locks while on the move. I would suggest turning it off.

It's tough, as you're working on this, because realistically you need an XL engine in that to make it perform better.(Due to the weight savings, you can fit more stuff on it.)

Didn't know about the 180m minimum range on the LRMs. That's good to know.

Standing with the front line mechs: If I hang back, I'm out of range with the TAG which makes that module useless. I was trying to explore its effectiveness, but its starting to look like its just not.

Standing still: Again, to use TAG. And I was trying to stay close to bigger mechs which was recommended.

Joystick: Nope I'm using a mouse and a G13 gamepad. The joystick sits on the desk unused except for the analog throttle which I have bound to the TAG to keep it on.

Ammo: Probably need more I agree. Thanks for the formula.

TAG on all the time: Well, having to "fire" it makes it even more cumbersome to use than it already is. Maybe I'll just give it up.

Arm lock: My arms are not locked. Switched that off first day I was in the game.

XL Engine: Well again this was just a Stock C1 which I'm upgrading as I can afford it. At this time, I'm targeting this build as a possible config to use. Seems LRMs are just not my thing.

Just a personal thing... you could/should put one more Sink in your engine. 3 more crits could come in handy. You need 6 torso crits to fit an XL remember.

My apologies. I saw you had one of the "bad things" but misread which it was. The resolution/quality made it hard to read things, in your vid.

Throttle-decay: Turn it off. By using a real throttle it allows you to do other things while moving, without having to dedicate a finger to always pressing a "forward" button. It makes it a great deal easier to tag and lock, while on the move.

I'll record some C1 LRM play, this afternoon(US time) and post it for you to see. The build will be ~what I posted first in this thread.

Throttle Decay: Wow I had no idea that was even an option... I just tried it with that turned off on a testing map and I have to say it feels a lot different. Not quite sure how I feel about it yet but I think it will be more useful to have it off, like you said. The way I've been doing it is to have one of my G13 keys set to "0" as a sort of cruise control. I'll have to test out my fast mech piloting skills with this new setting and see if I can perform just as well.

[EDIT]
Ok I don't think I like it in combat. I tried it out and got my as.s handed to me promptly because I couldn't control my speed accurately while in close fast combat in my Jenner. I kept trying to run full speed into things when I normally would have instinctively let go of the throttle at specific points for tight turns, etc. I think I'll turn Throttle Decay back on, as it feels much more natural and gives me more precise control over my speed without actually looking at the dashboard.

Part of the problem you're running into is your G13. Unfortunately it doesn't have a scroll-wheel you can map the throttle keys to.

I use a Razer Nostromo, myself, and use the scroll-wheel for my throttle.

Recon, tbh I wouldn't even try LRM boating until you've earned the c-bills and GXP in other chassis to unlock and purchase the level 2 target decay and level 2 advanced sensor modules....

RE: Nostromo...

Wow, I had no idea they were still being produced. I bought two Nostromo gamepads over a decade ago when they looked like this and were made by Belkin. I don't trust Razer products or I may consider it. Razer is way too overpriced and the packaging is the most quality thing about their products. I have a Megalodon headset and the microphone makes my voice sound like the killer's recordings in "Saw". I have a Razer Mamba mouse, and the charging station completely quit working, so now its corded only. Plus the battery (a lithium ion no less) lasts about a day, where my Logitech mouse can last like a year on two AA batteries.

I love my G13 gamepad. Its super high quality and very versatile, plus the profile software is top notch. Its also a lot bigger with a lot more keys than the Nostromo and is superior in every way I can think of. My Nostromo game pad's keys felt gummy and not like real keyboard keys. Everything about it felt cheap. I'm sure Razer has fixed some of that, but really, the design looks exactly the same. I don't really feel like I need a scroll wheel on the game pad for anything.

Here's what my key config looks like for MWO. I actually use every single key.

That's somewhat outdated information. With current mechanics, all you're doing by powering down, is making yourself an immobile target for the LRMs to slam into after they've lost lock.

Hear warning, move quickly, power down. Missiles don't track that well. They will go to where you were.

<shrug> That is not my experience, but if it works for you...
