I've been watching the Launch Tournament online this evening, and I really enjoy watching the "FreeCam" mode that they're using. Is there any way to switch into "FreeCam" after my mech dies so that I can watch the combat unfold from a high altitude perspective? That view is just awesome.

If this isn't currently available, can a dev comment on whether it's planned for a later date? I'm assuming you couldn't chat once you switched to that mode (since you'd be able to see details that aren't available to 1st person players).

It's not currently available. It is on the slate for a future release to the public.

As long as they make it so you can't talk to your team anymore when you go free cam, sounds great.

AFAIK that is a special spectator cam.

Basically its only for shoutcasters / tourny operators etc so they can provide a decent video of the matches...like at the launch event. Also there would be time delayed ones for smaller in-game tournys I would say that the players themselves can jump into and watch.

Much like in other FPS's where you get a delayed feed, but you can move the cam anywhere just as if you were the shoutcaster etc.

There is also going to be one available for private matches, so people can make some cool movies with it etc.


However in your normal run of the mill matches, this wont be available afaik. The best you could hope for there is a saved replay file you can view AFTER the match.......or they somehow link in a delay once you die......so you die and then start spectating from a few minutes ago...... (which wouldnt be too bad, you get to watch exactly how you died etc)

Whatever happens, the cam is really cool.

They need to add a way to figure out who is who, though. The current implementation of 'Q' would work wonders.

While the view is cool, it would be like a free spy plane. Don't want.

I made a joke that the 3rd pseron view was to difficult for some players and that they would make a top down view and make navigation point and click. Who knew......
