No. Technically, it is kinda cheating. You are blabbing about stuff your character would normally not know.

Not that I care. I do it all the time. But I don't think that was the intent of spectator mode.

I totally disagree.. You basically become "mech Command" which isn't that part of what being a mech warrior is all about?

I don't always spectate, but when I do...

...I sleep.

Funny, my 'Mech is dead. Me, I'm still kicking.

After all, all I know is what I saw before the 'Mech fell over + whatever's on your feed. That I can 1) tell my team and 2) use my knowhow to give my team a hand isn't cheating, or else they'd simply mute players with dead 'Mechs over to a channel their team can't see.

That, and since MWO can't seem to automatically put teams in a VOIP channel, we're playing with gimped messaging as it is.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I become Ghost Obi-Wan if I'm killed, and thus relay whatever info I want to my team after my destruction. So to any folks who would say that I'm cheating... screw you, I'm roleplaying. ;)

"Luuuuke! Luuuuuuke!"

"My name is JoHn3Y, not Luke!"

"Okay whatever, there is a light shooting you in the back!"

Nooo the best way is to make fun of your team mates and tell then how bad they are, and get angry about how they didn't play like you!!! Or.. something!

Right?!... right?
....

Not now, MUB. You and I both know, no one is going to fall for that. Especially on these forums. ;)

Please do not come into an earnest discussion with this kind of negativity. In all previous manifestations of Mechwarrior, the pilot is always assumed to have ejected upon the destruction of his 'mech, with the possible exception of MechAssault, which isn't a great example of the franchise (even if a rockin' great game).

There's not much you can type in the chat which constitutes cheating, though you still are expected to behave as a gentleman and a good sport. Blatantly raging against another player or giving away info to your opponent with the intent of damaging your own team are both unacceptable, yes, but friendly communication is desirable in any form at any time within the team.

GJ, OP. Good tip for all of us.

I understand the eject concept, and stand by my view. Dead men do not talk. How would the pilot communicate and observe the enemy if ejected ? Does he get a bonus helicopter ? Helping the team AFTER your mech is destroyed IS cheating.

Edit: This is not negativity, it is a genuine opinion.

Edit: It is called ghosting.

Bottom line is: they put the ability in the game deliberately - so you cannot call using it cheating, any more than you can call using the AC/20 cheating or using Airstrikes or anything else put deliberately in the game.

I will call it cheating, as I always have. There is no honour in ghosting.

This is good advice in the absence of a VOIP solution. The problem I see when spectating is a lot of the time the dude doesn't target the enemy he's shooting, so neither he nor I can see the enemy's health and weapon status. Why do people just blast away at an enemy without targeting it?

Some of them do not realize you CAN target someone (or even that mechs have more than one damage-able part!)
As quite a few of them seem to not read the chat (either because of slow reading or dislike of reading, or dislike of people, or believe that taking advice from 'dead' players is cheating {} or who knows what reason) there is only so much we can do about that. :(

Aaah, to have the luxury of not being the last on my team to die. Such is the life of the D-DC brawler; to make sure that when you're going down, the rest of your team is bloody well going to die as well :(

The second best thing you can do while dead spectating: watch "adult films"

At least that way if your team gets stomped you won't care enough to complain about it on the forums.

I don't have time to type useful information while I'm playing, at least leave me the option to armchair-quarterback my teammates after I'm dead from foolishly rushing in.

Or wait, I'm sticking with my Obi-wan concept instead. I like that better.

CHEATING would be somehow manipulating the game so that you can fly around and view the battlefield like an invincible drone after (or before) you've died. Using built-in game features is not cheating.

If you think I'm cheating by using team chat after I'm dead, then report me. See what happens. Because I'm going to keep doing it. I'd rather stick around and spectate and provide useful info to my team than just disconnect and jump into the next Mech to farm faster.

Its Command, offering advice from afar using sensors, reports and satelites to give you an update regarding the battlefield conditions.

(and dying in the first two minutes is quite easy to a dual AC40 team, or getting ambushed because your whole lance is incapable of supporting slow moving assults because they prefer to cruise along at 150km/h and so on and so on).

I agree 100%!
The Dead Spectating should have no in game chat what so ever!
