I'm trying to figure out a good yet stable commando load out with an XL engine, but I'm have trouble.

This is what I'm thinking of going with

Commando 2D
Medium Laser x1
Streak SRM x3
Double Heat sinks x4
Case x1
XL Engine 170 or XL 180

If you like the build tell me or if any of you can tell me a better build please tell me as well

You can go ahead and remove the Case. It won't help you survive an ammo explosion when you've got an XL engine. 3 SSRMs and a Med laser is the default loadout for the 2D, and is quite acceptable. I've tried various combos of normal SRMs, but haven't been satisfied with them. Don't forget to install your ECM!

ECM emits a 'bubble', if you will, of protection against targetting locks. You and those within the ECM radius around you will be unavailable for enemy target locks. This means that missiles cannot lock-on to you and your nearby allies, and your positional data won't be transmitted on the enemy battle map. Some items break through ECM. TAG for instance. PPC hits also temporarily shut off ECM on the carrier. ECM has other effects too, but that is an introduction.

I use basically the same build (no CASE and with EMS instead), but I switched out the medium laser for a flamer. It's not optimal for DPS, but the flamer is too much fun. :) I think most would advise you stick with the laser, though.

There are only three good ways to build a streakmando. They involve the 195XL, 200XL or 210XL. Your design is too slow. I recommend the 200XL as you can use it on a lot of medium mechs as well.

The 170 with DHS and Endo-Steel gives you enough spare weight to have maxed armour (except 2 points less than max on the head), 3 tons of SSRM ammo, 3 SSRM launchers, a medium laser, and ECM. Max armour helps you win vs. other streakmandos, but you won't see many these days. Stay near the main group, give them the benefit of your ECM, and chase away spiders and other lights. Works well.

edit: Be aware that ECM has two modes. The first mode creates the protective scrambling bubble I mentioned. Pressing J puts it into Counter mode. In Counter mode, it will no longer protect you. But it will shut off 1 enemy ECM nearby.

I've liked:

1 ML, 3 streaks, 1 ton of ammo with an XL200

or

1 MPL, 2 SRM4s, 1 ton of ammo with an XL200

Endo and Ferro on both. That XL 200 is good for Commando's because it's a full ton less than the 210 max engine (which is HUGE for such a small mech), you get the same number of internal engine heatsinks as the 210, and it's only ~10 kph slower (so instead of 150 you go 140...not too big of a deal).

Also, if you run streaks, try chain firing. It's hard to see past them when they are constantly hitting you (kind of like when you are getting rocked by LRMs). That mainly pays off well when you are doing it to a big guy that your friend is fighting.

Oh I kept the laser. I went the SHS route but I think it is worth it.

That should do you fine. When you get more experience you can lower the engine to fit ECM in there. Despite what everybody says, you do not need to be at max speed all the time. You only need full engine if you are going to go running off away from the group and might find yourself alone against angry Jenners (for example). The COM-2D is the sneakiest of the Commandos, and the ECM definitely facilitates that. I run a 180XL in mine, and I do alright.

Don't forget you can install Artemis at no weight or space to improve/cheat the performance of streak lock and that single heatsinks in legs act as true doubles while in water.

Mechs with DHS cool faster on land than the majority of SHS mechs can cool in the water.

Since you are guaranteed to hit with your streaks, I'd advice dropping a ton of ammo. You'll likely never run out with 2, let alone 3 tons.
