They ain't wrong.

I don't ever recall having a "tough learning curve" for this game though... And I have not played a MW game since MW3.. Which I never even played much.

We need game modes NOW. Hell, I think a CTF would really spice it up.

A little high for me and even though it was 7ish the written review was less than flattering :D

Meh. Unless they start implementing some significant upgrades time to stick a fork in MWO.

If IGN won't give you an 8, you are probably doing something very wrong.

MechWarrior Online's most controversial feature is its "noob friendly" third-person camera mode, which allows you to peek around corners and see angles you can’t from a cockpit. To balance out concerns from high-level players, Piranha has given third-person players an easily spotted camera-bot and disabled their minimaps. A newer player, I usually find myself sticking with first-person as the mini-map is too valuable to lose, and honestly it just feels like the mode MWO was meant to be played in. If there’s an advantage in battle to the third-person perspective, it’s subtle.

Pretty much. The advantage of 3PV is subtle and probably only realized by experienced players that scrounge for every advantage they can get. At the same time, it's too impractical for new players due to the lack of the minimap. Sure, that's "working as intended", because they don't even want people to keep playing 3PV, but ultimately, it makes the whole feature wasteful. A dedicated 3PV and a decicated 1PV queue would have allowed making 3PV more effective. Then maybe some players keep playing 3PV and never advance to full time 1PV players. But so be it. You can always find other incentives for 1PV players - extra rewards, tournaments being split into both queues (and if the competition is too tough in the frequently used queue, you can use the less frequently used queue).

If that's the case ... then 3PV is an epic fail of beyond epic proportions. What purpose has it served only to alienate the hardcore gamers/fans (those who tend to spend money) on MWO?

if the game would've been released a few months later it'll most likely get a better rating...

That's my theory.

Please for the love of baby jeebus on roller skates don't give them ideas on now to make 3pv "better". The game has gotten an average rating of mediocre basically and that's where it belongs at the moment. The core gameplay is ok but not spectacular, near-flawless, nor completely balanced. If the only thing you have is combat arena games on repeat that you have spent two years working on to get "perfect" because you want that solid base to build other features on (summarizing a lot of what has been said by devs here) then that combat better be dam near perfect

Add eject, collision knockdowns, ui 2.0, another game mode , more maps, more goodies(graphics sound etc) and thats an 8 score from IGN. A great CW and more maps and other goodies makes a 9. Knocking on 10's door aint bad at all.

oh and Dan Stapleton narrated the review... he's a fairly well respected PC reviewer thanks to his work on Gamespy. Kudos to PGI for getting a nicer review on the biggest review site (plus a video review on a Saturday, you guys really got lucky).
