I can't upload directly from my computer, and every single upload site I try to use as a link upload, the forum rejects. So how exactly am I supposed to upload an image with any of my posts?

I normaly use a image hoster and then use the small "picture" over the text field and copy the link into it or just use pictures from teh internet and do this. The picture is the thing left of <>. Try it.

Yes, as Grayson Pryde mentioned, Upload/attaching a file on these forums have been disabled. This is normal on community forums to minimize web space usage(ie hard drive space on a web server).

Community forums normally tell you to host your image/file on a 3rd party hosting service like imageshack, photobucket, etc. and then hot link it to your post to show the image just like Grayson Pryde mentioned.

Okay, I don't know if this is the same basic principle, but: how do you attach a photo for a signature?

Use a image hosting site like imgur to upload your picture. Once it has finished uploading your image it will give you several different options on how to share your uploaded image. Using the "Message Board" option, with the BBCode [ IMG ] [ / IMG ] is usually a safe bet.

Just make sure the image you are uploading isn't huge, because it can break the forums formatting if it's too large.

I have tried several different images and two different hosting services, and it still won't post my fanart.

I used imgur and photobucket both, but when I copy the code into the Image spot all I get is a broken link icon in the window. When I try to preview my post it either shows the code I just tried to load, or nothing at all.
I did manage to get my signature banner to load, but the same process doesn't work in the posts.

Any hints for someone who apparently isn't as web savvy as he thought he was?

Same problem here, using Firefox 11. I can't post images, I tried 4 different uploaders (imageshack etc.) but all I get from trying is a broken pic symbol. It then says: An error occurred You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community.
Is it my IP causing problems? Browser? Something else?

Solved the problem, with some help. You are not allowed to use the "normal" links to uploaded pics, neither the tagged ones (ie [IMG]). You have to take the direct link, then it works.

Ok, let's take imageshack.us for an example. Once you registered and uploaded a pic, you get several code and link lines.
Link: [http://imageshack.us...s/123/xxy.jpg/]
Direct Link: [http://img123.imageshack.us/xxy] <---- this is the one you copy and paste for use
.
.
.
I hope I could help.
(Edit: Don't click the links, I altered them)

Let him give you the image for download, then upload it yourself after my instruction. That should be the less nerve wracking way. I've learned that some forums use different html codes, so they're not compatible. Good luck!
