Funny, all these 'professional' game reviewers seem to identify the massive shortcomings this game has, yet we are all on some island. So strange.

Even the most "white-knighty" of players don't disagree about what shortcomings the game has. The only real difference is how important different aspects of the game are to people. The shortcomings the game has aren't all that significant to me. I understand that they are very significant to others.

It's all a matter of perspective you see. Most of us, with the reviewers, are on a huge continent that spans most of the world and PGI and the white knights are on a small little island, but in their view, it's us who are on, albeit big, island and should be ignored.

Knocks it out the park. If it wasn't for the players, this game wouldn't have made it this far.

it was near perfect - " high-spec Hero ‘Mech might give you an advantage in 1-on-1 battles"
not sure if its really valid at all, he might have gotten the feeling of it I suppose but its the only thing that is out of place.
after all those overwhelming and underwhelming articles this one is about spot as can be even though he missed out on some of the rage.

5.4 is a bad review. not a good, not a mediocre, its a bad one
in the game-rankings world, everything below 7 is bad.
no one would buy a game with 5.4, except hardcore mech fans

If the rating is for 1-10, 5. whatever is average.

I like to think that reviews should be intended for new players who do not yet have experience with a given game. While you are correct that he did miss out on the rage, I think that is better in a review, as a new player would not understand most of what has gone on prior to release to upset the player base.

Or maybe we'll see it once UI 2.0 is done. As they have said they needed it before they could implement those.

No, it's not.

While MMORPG.com's review is not on metacritic yet we can look at the average score given out by the 5 critics who's reviews are on there.
http://www.metacriti.../critic-reviews
Average score given by Gaming Trend: 80 - http://www.metacritic.com/publication/gamingtrend? filter=games
Average score given by IGN: 69 - http://www.metacriti...gn?filter=games
Average score given by Ten Ton Hammer: 79 - http://www.metacriti...er?filter=games
Average score given by GameSpot: 68 - http://www.metacriti...ot?filter=games
Average score given by Game Trailers: 76 - http://www.metacriti...rs?filter=games
IGN gave MWO an above average score, the rest all gave it a below average score.
5 is the middle point, it is not the average score.
:Edit:
The average score for MMORPG.com is 68 (6.8) - http://www.metacriti...om?filter=games

Well yes there is that, I somehow don't think they envisaged having to rewrite the entire UI from scratch when they first started the project lol, one of those minor set backs lol. I'm not complaining, I can wait as long as PGI needs I'm just happy to be playing a pretty Mechwarrior game ;-) the community run leagues and such like are tiding the wolf spiders over just nicely for now.

Agreed. Although I think alot of the negativity stems from the fact that people are stuck with the same features, stuff like UI2.0 takes alot of development time and slows down other content/fixes etc.
That can be very frustrating at times but as long as the long term vision for this game won't change into something terrible I see nothing to get really worried about.

That generally doesn't apply to reviews. The scoring rarely uses the whole scale in a logical way. Totaling all scored reviews on their site, the average score for mmorpg.com is 7,06 and median 7,3. Games that have received a score similar to MWO: Mythos, FF XIV: A Realm Reborn, Hello Kitty Online.
