Ok just now first boot of the day the computer shutdown before it loaded up but on the 2nd boot it turns on normally. Now all I did was put the Nvidia card in charge of scaling and have a custom res of 1366x768 before all this happened. Now why is it happening at random boots? Is it hurting my computer? How do I stop it?

Custom resolutions can cause system instability :x

Thank you for your answer but that is my monitors native resolution what am I suppose to do buy a new monitor because telling the computer to use the native is going to mess it up?

Ummmmm

Update nvidia drivers?

That's a really weird resolution.

doing a quick google search yielded this; "Depends what you use it for. But IMHO watching movies the only things you can really do without any relevant drawbacks. And minesweeper. Posted Image"

which made me giggle a little >.>

Maybe use a lower resolution?

I am always curious about this last question if the computer is not using a part of the screen at all like say aspect ratio wise would it still burn in if it were to stay black or is this a new tech I didn't know about? I grew up on the 4:3 aspect ratio for my childhood. When I looked up screen burn in I always worried about that part being a bit burned in by the black screen.

Ugh. The dreaded "all I did was blah and now it doesn't work!"

Let me get this straight...

1. The computer was working fine.

2. You messed with some settings.

3. The computer is no longer working fine.

Is that correct?

If so, it seems to me like you shouldn't have messed with whatever you messed with. Revert back to the settings that worked.

To really help you, we need:
Exact system specs -- CPU, RAM, GPU, HD, operating system, graphics driver version, EXACTLY what settings you messed with. What resolution was the computer using before you messed with it? Is this a laptop or a desktop with a really small monitor?

If it's a laptop or a store-bought desktop, you may need to use the manufacturer's forums or support to get answers.

I'm gonna say power supply issue. I'm gonna say it because I've seen this happen before.

Either your changed settings are causing the GPU to use more power during startup and the voltage from the PSU is dropping to the point where it's shutting itself off, or it's just a case of incredible timing.

In either case, I'd at least try to get your hands on a kill-o-watt meter and keep an eye on it. Also remember, if it's a generic or lower quality PSU, just because it SAYS it's putting out a certain amount of power or voltage doesn't mean it's not dropping under minimum threshholds.

Again, I've seen this before. Stock 800watt PSU that came with a case I bought for my wife's rig. PoS wouldn't start half the time, but once it *DID* it was fine. Tossing the PSU solved the issue.

Well if you need my computer data here is the dxdiag

Spoiler

Its a desktop with a 26 inch tv and my graphics driver version as of now is GeForce 332.21 Driver. My resolution was 1360x768 and my aspect ratio was controlled by my tv but I thought my gpu would do a better job.

lol I forgot that people connected their computers to TVs, something I would never do. The funky setups used by TVs can cause problems.

Just let the TV control the aspect ratio, just like it does when it shows TV programs.

Well some games have an aspect ratio of 4:3 and its not automatic I would have to grab the controller and switch it to 4:3.

Edit: Also I use my video game console on the same tv so there lol. I used to have a monitor that did both with sound I can't find another decent one so here I am with a tv.

Game consoles are designed specifically to use the funky resolutions that TVs offer. So there.

You have to grab the remote and switch it? Oh my gawd, such an imposition. The nerve of something making you manually switch the modes.

At least it works.

The way you want it to work is causing problems. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

Well my computer has been booting fine ever since I took the custom resolution off I left the aspect ratio alone it works fine.
thx

Well, at least you found the root of the problem.

Now go buy a monitor

. . . or a 1080 TV

:P
