So I ran across this on Facebook today:

[LINK REMOVED FOR SAFETY]

So after reading this and looking around, it looked like at least a few people had done this. Now, if this is legit and actually done by PGI then they have a serious problem - no where on this page is an expiration date.

Therefore this is entirely a scam.

I did three surveys and an installation before they gave me a "Promotional Codes" file in a .rar file. After I opened the txt file from the .rar, it had only the following message in it:

"We are currently out of codes!
Please try again next month!"

Why else would it remain functional after it was over? How many other players filled out surveys to get their emails deluged with useless {Scrap} we didn't want anyway?

So here's the deal. I want to know if this is a sponsored PGI promo. If it's not, you need to clamp this down QUICK.

If it is, I want the MC you promised me.

I hate to break it to you my friend, but it is indeed a scam. This is one of the most common kinds of FB Scam. You should also download Malwarebytes from www.malwarebytes.org and do a complete scan of your system to remove the virus/malware that probably got installed in that download.

Good Luck!

Moral of the story is, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

It's a scam.

This would be on the bottom if real, like all PGI stuff-

If you opened the .rar file, you've been deeply infected as a personal information stealer, key logger and your computer is now most likely part of a botnet.

The offending link has been traced and is being removed.

Remember to exercise good security judgement. We'll never host promotions on 3rd party websites; we'll never have MC promotions that require downloads; and the only downloads we offer are signed with Piranha Games's certificates.

IGPs official response can be located here

"Greetings MechWarriors,

We've noticed a number of reports regarding suspicious pages appearing on third-party sites.

These sites are typically (but not limited to) blogs or<p class="post entry-content ">videos containing information and links which CLAIM to offer anything ranging from free credits, trainers, aimbots, a free version of the retail game (this one should raise an eyebrow), or even beta keys (this one should raise the other eyebrow).

We urge you: Please do NOT download any files from, share links to, or provide any details to these third-party pages.

These sites tend to offer a downloadable .rar file, which, if opened, will deeply infect your system with keyloggers and possibly connecting you to a botnet. If you have already opened one of these files, please consider reformatting your computer.

We have already been contacting the various blog-site administrators to have the offending pages removed.

Remember to exercise good security judgement: We'll never have MC promotions that require downloads; and the only downloads we offer are signed with Piranha Games's certificates.

If you happen to find any posts or threads linking to such sites, please Report them!

As an online game, we cannot allow any cheats, so:
  • No "pgiclip"
  • No "mwcornholio"
  • No "show me the cbills"
  • No "UpWeapon, UpWeapon, DownWeapon, DownWeapon, LeftWeapon, RightWeapon, LeftWeapon, RightWeapon, Battlegrid, TurnLeft, Posted Image""
