I dont know if all of the people on this forum know where to play there old Mech type games but here it is
www.gameranger.com it is a simple version of the old MSN gamming zone.You can play MechCommander,MechCommander2,Mechwarrior3,Mechwarrior3 PiratesMoon,Mechwarrior4Vengeance,Mechwarrior4BlackKnight,Mechwarrior4Mercinaries,
Mechwarrior4MercinariesPR1,and the Mechwarrior4Mercenaries Free Mektek version also.

Here are the instructions to get the Mektek Free version to work on GameRanger

First go to gameranger.com download client and make account.The activation email will sometimes come in a junk folder.Activate your account and startup gameranger.
Visit www.mektek.net and download a free copy of Mechwarrior Mercinaries through the MTX or torrunt programs update it to version 3.1/30a-30c
Next go to your hardrive where your free copy of the Mektek mercinaries is installed(C:D:ECT\programfiles\mektek.net folder).
Next rename the folder(mektek.net)folder to (Mektek) delete the (.net).
Next go inside the newly renamed (mektek) folder and find the folder(Mercenaries-Mektek Mekpack)
Next rename the folder (Mercenaries-Mektek Mekpack) to (MercenariesMektek)all one word then go back to GameRanger on the gameranger bronze page go to edit then options find the game Mechwarrior Mercinaries on the games tab highlight it on list then hit the brows tab to open it point your link to your new C:\program files\mektek\MercinariesMektek\MW4mercs.exe
thats it now you can play on gameranger.

I would hope to see more of you on gameranger to let the community know where still here and ready to play MWO when it comes out.So dust off those old CD'S and lets rumble.IF no old cd's go to Mektek and grab the MTX downloader or torrents and install the free mercs version.

I don't recommend playing on the Mektek servers its all NHUA and hackers.

you should not rename the main folder just make a copy and rename that1 or you can mess up your access to mektek servers(the main place people play) and the mtx utility from finding the right place to put future updates
you can rename the copied folder anything as long as its shorter, the name mektek mechwarrior mercenaries mekpak is just to long and gameranger wont see it, that was the trouble the whole time with getting updated mercs to play there DOOH!
And all the mektek servers are not nhua. and the hacking thing......maybe you will see someone playing with their connection or exploiting bugs but no one is hacking, be serious

follow the instructions. you basically have to install and run MTX, then download the game client through it. The instructions are pretty simple but shoot me a PM if you have questions, I don't mind helping out.

Also want to mention something...

once installed, if you launch the game and it crashes after a black screen, right click on the desktop icon, and at the end, type in -gosNoVideo after the exe path.

one more thing to remember if you are planning on playing online is that by default, the client points to the davion.mektek.net zone match server. what you want to do is point to the kurita.mektek.net server. you can do this 2 ways. you can either select kurita from the zone match servers option from the connection screen, or change the actual value from regedit. if the first method fails, send me a pm and i can walk you through changing it through registry editor. Anyway, enjoy!

Yes - Game ranger works fine. you need to follow the instructions posted on here about copying and renaming the copied file. Other than that, GR works great.

CLient is available from MekTek.net about 1/2 down the page on the right. read the "stuff" abour MW4Mercs for free and there is a statement about using MTX with a "here" link to the client download.

OK... how 'bout you host? Since my computers been getting faulty w/ hosting servers. I will also need the server Ident Tag (go to the server tab and find the numbers and periods)

You got more than one place to play MechWarrior 4 - You got the in-game browser (New installs might have an issue but there is a fix -

If the problem is with MekMatch, I know of a way to get mekmatch to work by editing the registry - just change the davion - mekmatch address to current one we use.

Open Regedit

Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > mektek.net > MekMatch > ZoneServer

It would look like this davion.mektek.net - Change it to this: kurita.mektek.net

Hit okay and that should be it.)

Another way would be gameranger.

But people have 1 more option (And it's an option I would pick any day) and it's name is Digital Blood Sports http://www.digitalbloodsports.com/

Their lobby system is close to the old msn gaming zone - They have a lobby set up for the free mech 4 game plus other mech games - But to get the free version of mech 4 to work in the DBS lobby you need a program that the folks over at eWarrior Leagues created (just adds some reg entries to the directplay for mech 4 wich you can download from here - http://www.ewarriorl...1&download_id=5

DBS itself you will need to create an account in the forums (the security is tough and it will ask you what game you are going to play - put in "mech warrior" <------- just like that to get past) Got a screen shot to show it off (Also you can change the background of the lobby to an image off your computer. This DBS client is always getting updates and new features added to it.

Now I am just saying there is more places to play Mech at than just gameranger.
Also if you have a game that they don't have a lobby for and if their is enough people they will create the lobby - They have right now the fallowing:

i was playing single, got it without the mtx (growls at mtx) , only thing is it crashs as it tries to play the final cut scene ....
