The color of lasers

Think about it: if the laser's color is determined by an internal lens, then technicians could swap them out for signature styles and mind games.

I wouldn't want customizable laser colors, it would make it much harder to tell what I'm being shot with.

Lasers - customizable would be fine. The novels have differing colors of beams for every size.
PPCs - I think MW3 hit it dead on. I couldn't stand the blue-blob from MW2, and MW4 looked weak.
Gauss Rifles - None of that swirling-blue around a yellow beam **** (I'm looking at you MW4). Also, the green-gas from 3 was terrible. Just let me fire my 120mm metal slug and have it look like a giant BB, ala MW2.
Missiles - I preferred the individual launches that are in MW2 and MW:LL. Seeing that stream of death flying across a battlefield was amazing.
That should cover it.
This, to both. quotes.

I agree with most of the stuff here, but there are two points I would like to add on to:
(Pictures have been hidden because of their size)
I always imagined PPC fire as looking similar to this and being accompanied by a peal of thunder as the ionized air slams back together as the bolt passes through:
And I totally agree that the way Gauss Rifles were protrayed in MW4 was just straight up silly, but I would love for them to take from real-world advancements along this line and make them fire similar to the Navy's Rail-gun prototype:

if it was customizable i would go with what ever the large lasers are stock. It would prevent the enemy from knowing what weapons are on cool down unless they were REALLY paying attention.

Whenever I think of the PPC, I think of those energy sniper rifles from the Halo games. Anybody else feel like this could be a sort of spring board?

you hit it right on the head. The navy rail gun prototype is what i was thinking of every time i imagined a gauss rifle firing in the books.

As for lasers... regardless of the science, personally, I prefer MW2 style simply for nostalgia sake.
Although... what will pulse lasers look like? In MW2 it was just a regular laser that shot faster. In MW3 for example a pulse laser was a sustained beam, rather then rapid fire.
And missiles: 100% for ripple fire- like MW2. Firing the whole burst at once looked silly. But launching them one after the other in rapid succession looked awesome.

Medium = Blue = medium danger color
Small = Green = least damage color
Red should scare you..
"****.. That redbeam almost took my mechs Head off.."
Green should annoy you...
"Damned locust... **** off. ." <ATLAS STOMP>

All of these would have a strong thermal (lower IR) power output, but speaking in terms of blackbody radiation, I think that the established red-green-blue color guidelines make the most sense, as the strongest visible band of the actual laser unit would likely be a higher frequency as it generated more power.
Plus, colors make it easier to distinguish which is which.
Something else this helps with is the "fatness" of the laser beam. All beams would be as tightly focused as possible to maximize the intensity of the damage at the target. Having a fatter beam would in theory mean exponentially less focus and thereby exponentially less killing power.
Here's my thought, lemme know what'cha think:
Color the beams. The blue should be ghostly pale.
All beams should be about the same "fatness", maybe even partially transparent.
Pulse lasers should blink on and off due to the *almost* instantaneous speed of laser beams, instead of having a moving orb of energy as in the case of MW4.
EDIT:
And for gauss rifles, I'd go for a cannon effect but replace the muzzle flash and smoke with electrical arcing; perhaps a slightly more bassy report. I love Meck4 but it made gauss cannons way too pewpew.

Blue for PPC, purple for ER.

Like the 5 tube LRM20 Atlas, or if you look at various clan mechs like the Myst Linx which have a single launcher for the SRM and a box to feed the missiles to the launcher tube.
Remember Battletech is 10 seconds, the weapons varied by manufacture, So I would love to be able to buy a weaker rapid fire AC20 as well as a large kick you in the face AC20 single deadly shell.

That's wrong and right at the same time. While the actual laser may not make a sound when it travels to its target, the superheatet air it generates will. Laser is not just light. It wouldn't do any damage if it where.
About the colors I don't realy care. Though octarine would be fine.

heh, any how i'm sure they'll stick with the standard RGB of the past iterations
