I was rolling as a flea, I found 2 enemy mechs, an s rhino and a direwolf, and by the life of mine I was unable to fire at their cockpit. wth? I even notice damage wasnt even registering at some point while firing at the direwolf, that spot where the top behind the cockpit meets the roof cap thing? again wth?

Yeah, the cockpit hit box is (thankfully) always smaller than you'd expect it to be.

I've seen people trying to get head shots/cockpit shots on 0 ping, disconnected mechs... sometimes they were in game and lost connection, or never fully dropped and don't have a "player name" listed when you're shooting the AFK. When that happens, these mechs I believe I've been told have a sort of AFK protection where shots don't register as hitting that location, no matter how accurate you are you are hitting the mech at a hefty damage reduction and depleting the CT. I'm no software engineer, but this seems supported by often seeing a light mech trying desperately to farm an afk/disconnected mech and the paper doll shows the CT flashing and depleting in lieu of the accurate shot. You can aim at limbs in this case and farming damage by taking a leg, then the arm, then side torsos is I'd say a pretty regular thing to witness, but under observation of these disconnect cases sometimes even the "location" of the mech is suspect, you see the shot hit but it's a different orientation, like a CT shot you did instead hits rear and you know you are not aiming at the rear of the mech... or again, as I said before, a clear shot at the Altas's famous eye hitting, but just flashing the CT as damage location.

Porthos! I haven't seen you around the forums for a while; good you're still with us.
I've heard those rumors and seen people miss on AFK or disconnected 'mechs, but I'm... moderately sure, anecdotally, that I've seen headshots in those situations. I mean, most of the time people just farm them for the extra damage, so the actual data set we're looking for is pretty spread out. If we cared enough, I suppose we could get two people to load up into a private match and have one person disconnect.
