I like the map, mainly because of the variety of options is has for terrain and combat styles. I especially like the 2 tier rail yard/dock area where fun fighting can go on. Although just a few suggestions for it:
- Mini-Map arrows. Perhaps a 'fade' for enemy mech's at a different terrain "level" might be an improvement. With the rail yard/dock area, the mini-map can get a bit confusing at first glance, with a red arrow standing right behind you, but it is in fact a level below.
- Night mode. Map would be fun with a night version too. Maybe not pitch-black like River City, but it could be a fun map at night too. Full moon fight could be fun.
- Island of doom. Maybe another few pile of rocks or areas of cover would be a bit more balancing, and get some good long-range sniper battles.
- A few more tall-ish buildings. With the center mountain and spotters, the city sections are pretty wide open for mechs in the city zones. A few more tall buildings for cover might be handy.

I love this map, the only thing I would add is some level 2 water in the middle, If we can fight in space we can fight under water!

I like the map. Good design, the multi-tiered roadway is cool and adds new dimensions to combat. The tunnels and passes are nice. Overall, well done.
Since I always play Assault, I never see the point of the island, but I would imagine it plays a bigger role in Conquest.
I just wish this time and thought was put into Alpine

It does have a nice mix of environments. This is good since they should be announcing another "new" map any day ...
I am guess one of two "new" maps ..
Crimson Strait Snow
or
Crimson Strait Night
Imagine the possibilities.
Crimson Strait Rain
Crimson Strait Gloomy
Crimson Strait Mostly Cloudy
Crimson Strait Kind of Chilly Out

I agree with the OP, the map is great!
But then again, I like Canyon and Terra Therma too.
Yes, I hate Alpine, but that's because I almost never pack long range weapons and I don't like hill humping or poptarting.
