Recently bought this thing in an attempt to master my Highlander. However no matter what build I tried, they all failed miserably, and I'd appreciate any help in making this thing work.
Firstly I went with this. Decent damage output, however the heat is way too high. Even on Frozen City, you can only fire either your PPCs or your Large Lasers, turning almost half of my armament into dead weight.
Then I tried this in an attempt to turn it into a poptart machine. Still too hot, and way inferior to AC20/2PPCs or Gauss/2PPCs poptarts.
After that, I tried to utilize the 3 missile hardpoints for 3 SRMs, like this. However, Highlander is just way too clumsy to shine in a brawl and the XL makes it relatively fragile in close range, Not like the Victor that still retain maneuverability with an XL engine.
I have yet to try 4LL or 2LL+2LPL build, because, HELLO GHOST HEAT. Is there any other way to turn my 733P into a real killing machine rather than a 1000 degree oven? Any input is appreciated.

I apologize for being stupid regarding how smurfy's works.
I LOVE this friggin mech. I find it quite capable with the following loadout: std280, 2 LL, 2 ML, 3 SRM6 Artemis +4 tons ammo. The torso launchers and arm launchers are separate groups, to both manage heat better and make smoother use of the arm mounted launcher. At first, I was using the LL in the RT, thinking this was better for sniping. This was wrong for me- this is not a sniping build, get in there and punish up close and personal and remember to use your jjs to make your hitboxes harder to target. Good luck!

All of my HGNs use a STD 300 engine.
My 733P was using endo steel, 4 LLs, 17 DHS, and 16 SRMs (2 6-racks and a 4), and it did ok. Then I swapped out the SRMs for Streaks and upped the right arm lasers to PPCs.
Recently I made a major change to it, even ripped out the endo steel. It's now packing 21 DHS, 2 ERPPCs, 2 MLs, and 3 LRM5. (The triple LRM5 are lighter and faster cycling than an LRM15.) Been thinking of swapping out the LRMs for Streaks, but so far it's been doing ok.

Thanks for the input. Anyway I managed to find a decent loadout today.
my HGN-733P
The firepower isn't too amazing, but it can cope with both short and long range just fine, and an STD engine makes sure that I don't die to ST destruction. I was averaging 400-600 damage each match and thought I'd share with you guys.

this is how I build it: HGN-733P
Elite talents make it pretty quick and maneuverable for the amount of armor/firepower on board.
SRM ammo is a bit limited, but I don't find that I run out too often. You could drop a JJ or a heatsink and add more if you like. If you're not as insistent on artemis as I am you could also replace the ASRM4s with SRM6s.
It's not really a great jump sniper as far as I'm concerned. If that's what you want to do you'd be better off using one of the variants that can fit a gauss/ppc combo.

I tried a similar build with 2LLs, 2MLs, and 3 SRM6s with a STD300. However I found out that with any direct fire weapon(ie. ACs, Gauss, PPCs) this build would have a really hard time compete head to head with other assaults, or even some heavies so I didn't stick with it.
