I'd like one, but not at that price. If/when it comes down by 30% I'll consider it, but even $26 may be too much for one Mech.

I buy Heroes when they go on sale. Sure, I don't have the "latest" Hero, but really, these things are 300+ year old designs. Some Mech will become obsolete next year, so you better run it now? Not likely.

Suggestions such as "just do some over-time at work (you lazy b@stard)" or "just don't buy some ciggies for a while" are fine, but at the end of the day you can buy a complete game for that much (I just bought Bioshock Infinite for $27 :)), but let's say the Boar's Head is a third as much as an new AAA game so people don't get too hung up on arguing about the price of games, so it surely has to be classed as expensive.

I just can't see why people (as consumers) would argue that $30 is a "good" price for a single mech (elitist mentality or something?).

My theory was simply that I think PGI would make more than twice as much sales if they charged half as much (and a a consequence more people would be happy :D)

(Because I am saying prices are too high I feel I have to mention that I have paid more money into this game than any other single video game (first $50 to support this great game that was in beta, then more because the Pheonix package is actually a great deal ($80), then another $15 to get more mech bays = $165!), so it's doing pretty damn good off me for a "Free to Play" game. I do have an Ilya, but only because it was on sale and even then I think it was overpriced)

I've spent way too much money on this game myself, but:

At least with MOWONL, it's you who decides how much you will or won't spend. A squaddie of mine hasn't spent anywhere near what you or I did. He hasn't ordered any Phoenix packages, owns no heroes or founders, has a minimal amount of Mech-Bays and all his Mechs run around in ugly "olive green" (yuck! ;) ).

If it were pay-to-play, you'd have to pay a fixed amount each month. Don't know what the going rate is these days for other games, but I've played stuff in the past that cost anywhere between $10 and $30 a month.

And, again, in all fairness: Even though people will joke or even seriously whine about pay-to-win hero-mechs, I've yet to find one that actually *is* "pay-to-win". None of the ones I own (X-5, Firebrand, Wang, ILYA) feel like it. And the ones I don't own but encounter on the battlefield often pretty much feel like cannon-fodder - unless they're driven by a decent player.

Especially the Boar's Head seems to die rather quickly when used in the wrong way - just like any other Atlas. But then again: A decent player will do well in almost anything - except for some of the weirder trial Mech builds maybe..

It's neither good nor bad. It is what it is. Again: Everything is worth what its purchaser will pay for it.

You think heroes are overpriced? Then don't buy them or wait until they go on sale. I mean: I'd love to own a Porsche, but I just can't afford it. That doesn't mean I'll walk into a Porsche-dealership and start complaining to the salesperson that their cars are seriously overpriced.

The decision of "charging by the ton" may or may not be a smart one, but it's PGI's to make. And judging from a completely subjective POV (read: the sheer number of Boar's Heads I've encountered thus far), it seems to work fine.

The D-DC is pretty much a flat out better mech in every way. XL engine in an atlas is a really funny joke. They would have done much better to make a hero atlas with more ballistic slots or ballistics and missiles on each side torso.

"Don't buy it then" is excellent advice.

The FUN you could have had with one ballistic (hey, lets not be greedy) slot in each torso.

Being a classic BT player I was used to 6 to 8 bucks a mech back in the day. With that expenditure baring theft or disaster I had miniature for the rest of the time I played. Paying 30 bucks for custom cool mech online is to much. I could see 6 to 8 bucks for a hero mech possibly not 30 bucks a shot.

Not sure if you guys realise, but MC prices are listed in $US...so that $30 for the BH is around $45 here, and just so you know I'm a poor (son of unmarried parents word is censored? wow, so PC) who cant afford stuff, so that's like 2 weeks of food money on this end of the paygrade.

not sure I'm willing to go hungry for something so trivial y'know?

I can more than understand that - I am about living it myself :) and I live IN the US of A!

For my spending on the game though - I just had to blow a portion of my budget for the year on games :)

The hero mechs are expensive yes, but they are an investment - so long as you keep the mech, you get the CBill boost, so from that perspective I personally do not feel they are overpriced.
As for whether they are worth it or not - that is a far trickier question - and one only the individual making the decision can make.

I feel that my Yenlo was worth the price.
Sometimes I feel my TDK was worth it - othertimes no.
