i remember back in closed beta the mechs were so smooth and shiny
now when i see the new mechs i see worn out mechs that have been to long on the Battlefield
i think its time to change that see the differnces between these 2 mechs

Original Dragon (Shiny and brand new look)
-----------------------------

-----------------------------
wornout Dragon (dusty rough look)
-----------------------------

----------------------------

with this option you will be able to select the wearing options for your mech
-----Brand New (no scratches no anything and very shiny)
-----New (Slight wearing and dust kinda shiny)
-----Used (Wearing and grime and exhaust marks, little shine)
-----Old (this is your fathers mech its very worn out ,dusty, grime, scratches, large amounts of exhaust marks from heavy use and no shine)

This is not quite the original dragon texture, that's the 2nd one they made right before getting their current texture pipe sorted out.

The original was brown. Noticeably the mesh was baked with all soft edges and you could see shading errors where the normal map couldn't correct for the extreme shading gradients in the low poly. Made things look blobby and noob imo.

And all the originals had a hex pattern all over the spec maps which looked kinda weird to me as well.

However what you suggest is a lot of work as the scratches etc are all baked into the long lists of camospec skins for each mech. Not only that the entire way it's layered on the base texture means that unless the entire library of mech textures is done in duplicate, changing the color of the underlying metal from dark to a clean metal finish is not happening.

but it looks so pretty makes me want to start acting like a slug and start moving around it to absorb its shine

They can certainly set up a camo spec that is much cleaner if they wanted though. I would hope they would do something like that.
