This apparently has no effect on your FPS and records right from the graphics card.

The AVerMedia card fits in a PCI slot

I have yet to find a mass market hardware encoder (either internal or external) that wasn't junk. I would avoid like the plague - they are all based off designs for consoles, and they fail to appreciate the needs of PC users.

For example, the page says "Capture 1080p@60 HD Gameplay"

But later on says "The maximum recording quality is 1080p at 30fps"

Very misleading. Yes you can capture you playing @ 60FPS but you cannot capture AT 60FPS.

This is actually better than most though - many hardware encoders limit your game display to 30FPS (They were designed for consoles, and consoles play at 30FPS)

Also bear in mind the following likely limitations:

You will not be able to use a bigger res than 1920x1080 on your main monitor.

Only 16:9 aspect ratios are supported on your main monitor.

You will be capped at 60FPS

What does this mean?
No support for >60hz displays or nvidia 3D
No support for 16:10 PC style displays
No support for >1080p play (You must play at 1080p or lower, regardless of size of main display)

Forget it - junk.

If you have a 4th Gen or greater Intel CPU with "QuickSync" support, use "Mirillis Action" with the QuickSync codec for real-time hardware encoding using the features of the CPU.

If you have an nVidia 6xx or greater series GPU, wait a little while until nVidia release "ShadowPlay". This will use the GPU to real-time encode to H.264 using hardware built into the GPU. Furthermore, it will include a "record from the past" feature that will let you hit a button to save the last 30 minutes of gameplay (You do not need to have hit record before the game, you can hit it *after*)

These solutions do exactly the same thing but with no extra hardware. The nvidia solution will also be free.
