It's not your gauss ammo that explodes. It's the gauss rifle.

A gauss rifle, in all regards, explodes just like ammo. All rules for a gauss rifle explosion are exactly the same as for an ammo explosion. That's why it is displayed as an ammo explosion, as it is the same thing.

When it breaks, it explodes. When I used a gauss rifle in my AS7-D I usually put case in the same section and hoped that if the explosion was indeed handled like ammo that the case would mitigate it also. :)

Yep, Egomane is right.

Hopefully PGI will fix it so that the Gauss only explodes when charged. As it stands right now, it doesn't make much sense for an uncharged weapon to explode. It's a bit like having Elmer Fudd's shotgun go off in Daffy Duck's face after Elmer clicks it empty a half-dozen times. The only difference is that Elmer magically had "One bulwett weft!" while the Guass is in a zero-energy state prior to charge.

I'd be curious to know how that works out for you. It would be nice if C.A.S.E actually mitigated the Gauss Rifle Explosion...

It keeps the explosion damage contained to the Side Torso, just like it would for an ammo explosion. Gauss Rifle explosions are literally handled exactly the same way as ammo explosions.

Betty is just telling you that your Gauss has been destroyed.

When a Gauss Rifle is destroyed (i.e. "broken"), there's a 90% chance that it will also explode, dealing 20 damage to the internal structure of the component the Gauss is in.

If the case is in the torso where the guass is, then it is working. Case prevents the explosive damage from continuing on to the next section of the mech, i.e. center torso. So, if you have it in your right torso, it explodes, you will lose that torso and arm, but it will not move to the CT (course if you're IS and have an XL, you're dead anyhow).

CASE will not prevent ammo explosions.
CASE will not prevent damage from ammo explosions.
CASE will not prevent damage to other components in its location.

Case will prevent damage transfering from one location to the next.

Indeed, as has been noted, CASE does not prevent the explosions from occurring, nor does it prevent damage from the explosions; it merely prevents the explosions from spreading inward as components are destroyed (for instance, your Atlas's RT-mounted Gauss Rifle will still blow up but it will not damage the CT no matter how much explosion damage is left once the RT is gone, so long as you mount CASE in the RT with the Gauss Rifle itself)

thats what im saying... a guass in the rt of a Bh with a case, will result in torso destruction , (death with xl engine)

so basiclly the case is worthless now

mounting ammo, or exsplodable weapons in torso shared with a xl engine, has no point

That has always been the case (no pun intended). Ever since the first time CASE was introduced in the Battletech-Universe. CASE was deployed to prevent further damage, as a mech with 3 engine criticals damaged is out of combat but still salvagable. It was never intended (and never worked in a way) to safe you from those criticals being damaged.

But in either a non-XL engine IS mech, or any Clan mech, Case will prevent an ammo explosion from taking the mech out of the fight by itself. Also, arm mounted weapons equipped with Case in the arm will prevent the inward damage.
