Just got out of a match we had a few newbies on the squad - new guys stuck in a trial mech. They have one mech currently however they want to branch off into other things. They were disheartened about how bad the grind is. I was trying to talk them into a group etc, however I think their frustration is just to a point where they will drop the game entirely.
I dont know why exactly the Devs are making the grind worse. They balanced the Cbill earnings in the complete opposite direction. We were making way to much after repair and rearm was removed. Then they swung the pendulum back the other way I guess because us vets have too many c-bills. They are killing the new crowd though....

well thus far, PGI is notorious for making huge changes that swing balance shifts from one end of the spectrum to the other. They have a very heavy hand when it comes to these things. I think trial mechs are great but not for new players dropping against vets in customized mechs. Community designed mechs voted on for new players to use while they earn money for their own ride is my personal opinion on a good way to get new players into the game without them being horribly outclassed in mechs
