What's so odd about that? Looks like a regular 12 man setup you see in the queue.

And that is why I will never play on a team again, unless they implement tonnage limits that at LEAST cut the number of assaults in half and triple the number of mediums.

I do get this feeling sometimes, but this is because of:

1. I dont pilot lights
2. I pilot mostly meds or heavies
3. I mostly (99%) tend to brawl things out
4. While I do have Assaults, my heaviest is a not-elited Stalker, so I don't have Atlai

And because of all this, I do get that feeling sometimes.
The only mech I'm confident with I can take an Atlas 1:1 is my Vic with JJs. His agility with his firepower is really strong.

It's just that with the mechs I pilot an Atlas is a hard nut to crack because of the massive firepower and armor.

With that said....man I CAN'T WAIT FOR TONNAGE LIMITS IN PUGS! Just too many of them walking around.

Do you ever miss that feeling of dread when you see the most deadly battlemechs in the BT universe?

Back in the ECM hell & lag shield days, I was more afraid of a Raven than I was an Atlas. I would notice the ECM effecting my map and go "Oh God, I hope it's not a Raven. Oh good! It's an Atlas DDC!"

I should add that a group of 3+ light mechs swarming me makes me panic like the Game Over dude from Aliens.

Are you and I playing the same game?

Pugs and 12-mans are entirely different games. Caps to win games happen in 12-mans, but it needs to be done in the right context. You can't just start capping a full team that hasn't engaged yet without expecting something to stop you. Conversely, you need to always screen for a back cap.

What 12-mans are like:

In the first game we were able to threaten a base cap because we destroyed their light lance. They were forced to move back to the base and were unable to push. Our heavy lances chose this time to make their push which allowed us to flank them and snowball to victory. In the second game we took an opportunity to do some damage, but had to get out ASAP because of the threat that the enemy snipers posed. Look at how Adiuvo takes an almost-death hit to the back after only the enemy sniper looking towards him for a brief moment. In the third game we shut down their cap attempt hard, which gave us the opportunity to cap without any ability for them to respond since they were already engaged.

Pug games, on the other hand, tend to be a lot more variable. You often can see what the correct moves are for your or your enemy's team, but good luck actually seeing your team make that decision. If both sides have good players, then you still can't really just rely on a blind cap to win. The problem is that most pug players tend not to have a mind for the overall situation in a game. They don't really realize when there's a big hole in their knowledge of enemy positions. They don't really know if they've stepped past the point of no return to return to base.

I play 12-mans and I lone wolf pug games. I exclusively play light mechs in pugs so most of the time it's me who has to make sure that the team isn't in a position to be capped. Occasionally I will start to cap in order to disrupt teams or if it's the only available option (I missed an enemy backcap, they started to cap, I'm too far and/or too few in number of fast mechs to go and stop them).

A quick cap victory actually isn't that common looking at my past game records. They are apparently more common the more you hit the middle of the elo curve, but in general people complain about them because they feel cheated the rare occurrences when it does happen.

Edit: Check out this video by +SJR+ Siriothrax too. He goes into detail about the thought that goes behind some games between good teams:

Once you get that Stalker up to par (ie: Elite'd), you'll find that Atlases will probably fear you more than you fear them. I backstab Atlases in my Victor quite a bit because of the JJs. Then again, knowing Atlases pretty much inside and out from mostly playing them in CB doesn't hurt either.

Just the other night, I was on Canyon going 1v1 with an Atlas and he wasn't able to hit me even though I was like 100m away from him because I either stayed above or below his range of fire. I'm pretty sure I know how frustrated he was from experience.

12-man queue games kinda feature at least a few light mechs nowadays. I've seen a surprising number of team field a full lance of lights. Tournaments/leagues also usually have tonnage restrictions.

Occasionally when I join a match I see:

"HOLY #*@( it's CROW!"

followed closely by;

"Why did he have to be on our team?"

An atlas with a pilot is a force to be reckoned with.

The problem is that you have folks driving that mech who have no business in it. In battletech you wouldn't have some random fool driving one of the strongest mechs on the field.

Man those PPC's in the MW5 are awesome, no silly *** min-range nonsense, nice and powerful. An Awesome in MWO is the least scarey-thing to face at that range, which is utterly sad.

Atlas are pretty scary-ish in MWO on Urban-ish maps, I usually back away.

My overall Atlas stats aren't great but I did spend most of CB driving my Atlases mainly. All I know is that if you put me 1v1 against another Atlas pilot, I'll come out on top more than not. Then again, the average Atlas pilot isn't that great. Hopefully they'll implement a Solaris mode so you'll know who the great pilots are per chassis/variants...at least great in the context of 1v1.

One Atlas alone is by far not a free kill, but not that scary. I hate the moments when you push with you lance, kill a mech and advance behind a corner, knowing you team follows closely... only to meet those fat atlas twins and all of a sudden you are alone because everyone goes back to hunt a spider or get a coffee or what not.

Those moments... well... ****.

Ok it has been a while - but the most awesome thing i ever have seen - was a Catapult looking towards me - then turn and run.

It was a battle where my PUG team engaged the enemy - and suddenly found something more interesting to hunt - that leaves my Atlas in the middle of 6 enemy Mechs....

I admit it was before ELO and some of those Mechs were trials....but my first ripped a leg of a Centurion
Then I engaged a AS7-K while a Hunchback charged for my rear... was luck - but i cored those AS7-K in less than 10sec (Gauss Explosion) - turned and deliverd a nother flight of SRMS into the Hunchback - he dived for cover...then i finished the Centurion with another salvo
Turned to meet the Catapult....well it was in perfect range of 200m....but it didn't fire - it ran... as said - was great experience - a raging invulnerable Atlas in the middle of the enemy pack....

but hey - its forest colony.... forest colony allows my Founder Atlas to show his brightest side :(

As someone who piloted nothing but an atlas from CB up to the point when the highlander came out (mix between atlas and highlander since then) i believe an atlas is still a force to reckon with IF the pilot knows what he is doing.
I feel rather confident to take on any mech in a 1on1 with my DDC (and i win most of them)

So why many don't fear the atlas anymore? Are other mechs far more dangerours? I don't think so.
The reason is: Bad pilots buying an atlas after like 25 matches with their cadet bonus, creating a bad build for it, and doing bad things while playing it.

Back in the days, when trail mechs gave less money and there was no cadet bonus, you could be sure someone who used an non trail atlas played a great number of matches to achieve it. You could be rather sure that he knew what he is doing and you had to watch out. Nowadays you can't even be sure they know how to turn the mech around.

It's all about the pilot, not the mech.

For me, it's quite the other way around. I would rather face an Atlas then any Light Mech. Light Mechs, are currently my Bane. I tend to Pilot Mech ranging from the heavy end of the Medium Weight Class to the Light end of the Assault Class. I can generally, out run and out maneuver an Assault Mech. But, Light Mechs, beat me at my own game.
