There would be degrees of this for Corps, from complete lock down of colors to allowing 2 of the 3 be changed by Unit and Lance leaders.
It would look a little like this. Corp leader(s) choose Orange to be the primary color and White as the tertiary color with the Phraken pattern. They leave the secondary color channel to be changed by Lance leaders. Now Lance Leaders can choose a color of there own to make each of there lances unique amongst each other. This could also be done so that the Unit leader could choose the color, but not the Lance leads. This would mean within a Corp people would know whos from whos unit or even battalion ect ect.
Now think about when you drop AGAINST something like that, you will see 12 mechs that are Orange with White bones, but 4 have Green and 4 others have Black, while another one decided to go with a bright yellow. There all from the same unit as you can see, but each lance looks a little different. You see 4 lights running around in Orange/Black/White while seeing 2 Assault and 2 Heavy's in Orange/Yellow/White.
This opens up a whole new world for Corps to show off, and be more easily spotted, but also gain notoriety as well. With just a quick glance at a mech you would know who it belongs to, and know that XX group has really good pilots. So one day you might be on a pug run, or just on a drop with your lance to gain some Cbills, the rest of your team is Pugs or has another friendly unit. You have no idea who your against, short of you know who there allegiance is, and you run into a pilot from XX unit. A well known unit that holds many planets for that House, and from just caching sight of them, you know your in for very hard fight.
(colors and patterns would be bought with Corporation MC/cbills these colors would not be unlocked for individuals)
On a side note, this pattern would be available for ALL mechs, including heros (would be the only pattern they could change to).
