i finally started playing the game again after a few months away and i will probably regret doign this and stop playing again but it could be funny. I might have to be drunk the entire time though...... oh well thats a risk im willing to take!

Good luck in a 3025 Shadow Hawk. That thing is trash even on tabletop, let alone in this game. :(

well, DHS would be some level of sanity. I think I will START them stock and try to grind each one{s own upgrades.

did that with my Jenners.. Not going to do it ever again.. ever..

Actually i could see my self doing it with the Locust... But as i am never going to pilot it the point is moot.

yeah. my fave, the 2d2 is going to be hot and light on armor. That could get ugly. Single heatsinks on the BLR should be...... fun. :)

The one thing is that I may not put DHS in the locusts. I'm not sure about the other vaiants - but I don't think you'll need them on the phoenix model since it only has 1 energy hardpoint.

4 ballistic / 1 energy at that weight - you're basically stuck with machine guns (I may try a build with a single AC 2 because I think it'd be funny - but probably not something I'd stick with.) and 1 laser (in the middle - so no room for a PPC). Even squeezing in a large pulse laser might be rough due to tonnage issues. 10 standard heatsinks should be enough to keep even that pretty close to neutral.

And since you're limited to a 190 engine - you need 3 exterior heatsinks. I have a feeling that DHS would do little but use up 6 slots on the mech.

This is normally pretty cute, but in this case, you really don't want to do it.

The basic shadowhawk has an SRM2, med laser, AC5, and an LRM5...on a 55 tonner.

I hadn't thought about this, but just for variety's sake I think I'm going to try it at least (ok, maybe not on the shadowhawk). After playing Trebs and Commandos for a while I'm used to being pretty suboptimal anyway.

I usually start off in a stock mech for a few games to see how I do.

I generally leave 90% of my Mechs with their stock build, or build pseudo-stock Mechs from other variants, and replace the SHS, with DHS, since PGI has messed up heat sinks.

That being said, I would gladly play with the Shadowhawk in a Stock Tournament or Stock Mode (most Mechs don't have AMS, so the LRM5 is somewhat useful), but its going to be way too hard with the borked balance in the game. I've tried builds like the SH in MW:T and MegaMek, just to see what it would be like in a "TT" setting, and its actually pretty good if you stay at range with the AC/5 and LRM5 in a support role.

With the SDH-2H, however, I am simply going to go with a pseudo-Flying Hunchback-4G loadout. And the SDH-2H2, I am making a duplicate of the SDH-2Hb -> http://bte.battletec...te/pdf/4022.pdf , which will be the third SLDF Royal Mech in my Mechbays.

You could do the same with mechs of much smaller BV value.

I'm not saying all Shadow Hawks are bad at stock. Assuming you know how to keep your *** alive in a big XL mech, the 5M is even in stock a monster in the game (yep, I've built and played it back in CB... although the 1 ton of ammo for LRM and UAC would probably hit me hard now that their fire rates have been multiplied and LRMs aren't hitting like tactical nukes).

Voted yes and no. I'll probably run them out a couple of times to see what I want to do differently. I don't have a C-Bill hoard, so I'll want to get a feel for them first.
