I like the Firebee. It's like a Commando on steroids with JJ's.

We know the tech will be nerfed because PGI said they have to bring it down otherwise the Clans will overpower the Inner Sphere in one night.

Yes, but how?

Show me the numbers. We have them waving their hands and saying Clans will be nerfed, but how? How? Can you show me how? Nobody is showing anyone how they have been nerfed, because, right now? They really are not. Thus far everything they have shown of the Clans has not been appreciably touched.

The "nerf" might simply be that you can actually shoot at what you aim at in MWO. The "nerf" might be the prevalence of front loaded damage in MWO. Except neither of these are Clan nerfs. They are just the Clan mechs placed in MWO and dealing with the current status quo of MWO's reality.

Timberwolf all the way. Mostly because a Dirty Smoke Jaguar was piloting the Mad Dog when he got crushed by a Kodiak. :-D

Not a fan of the Dark Age version of the Mad Dog that's in the MW4 intro. It's cool in it's own right, but the Mad Dog is a fire support mech at heart, and the MW4 version doesn't convey that nearly as well as the classic version. They made it look more like a brawler I guess. Plus I felt that they killed a little bit of plausibility with that design when they removed the Attack Helicopter-style optics on the tip of the nose just to put the tiny turret there instead.

Still beats the hell out of some of the other Dark Age redesigns though.

Firemoth: no MASC yet.
Ice Ferret: only 2 mediums and Nova & Stormcrow may be a bit more iconic :(

and is probably the most iconic mech in BattleTech (easily the most recognized).

Well some old-school players would say the most iconic 'Mech is either the Atlas or the Battlemaster (often featured on novel and rulebooks covers) but i strongly disagree with them

First iconic mech of Battletech was Warhammer, later he became unseen and was replaced by Atlas and Timber Wolf.

We need to create a graph with comparative distribution of iconic mechs. ;)

Based on distribution on official covers? Sounds interesting

Well Mad Cat wins. Every Dark Age cover in the logo, 7 Video games (background in MW4 Vengeance, Mw2, Mw3, MechCommander 1 and 2, MW:LL, BT 3050 SNES Japanese version), A high percent of the Technical readouts, plus about 20 other BT novels, on the cover of some of the newest Sourcebooks, also I forgot, the title mech for MechWarrior Tactical Command for the IPhone stuff etc. I could go on forever.

Actually, the one on the Dark Age novel covers is the Mad Cat Mk.II, while the one on the MechWarrior novels (e.g. Ghost of Winter, Roar of Honor, etc) is the actual Mad Cat; they can be distinguished by their (very different) silhouettes.

Timberwolf. Do not sully the name of a venerable omnimech with the designations of two inferior designs. Timberwolf and Timberwolf II.

The way I look at it is a Timber Wolf is a large (for a dog) deadly animal that fights in packs to kill animals bigger that it. A Madcat is well a pissed off cat that is a threat to you only if you do not want to get scratched. So which one would you like to use? Also the Mad Cat MKII always pissed me off. ******* Microsoft rips off one of the most iconic mechs in Battletech, improves it in just about everyway without losing its image, then has to go piss on every fan of the Clans by calling it a Mad Cat MKII. They then go further by saying that it is a Diamond Shark design that they wanted to sell to both the Clans and the Innersphere. WTF!?

Mad Cat is Mad Cat no matter how you make it look. Mad Cat II is still a Mad Cat.
The Mad Cat Mk.II has proportionally thinner legs, a more bow-legged stance, proportionally smaller missile launchers, has the missile launchers mounted higher on the body, and has stubbier arms (that is, it does not have the "pipe-cleaner" aesthetic) with proportionally larger weapon pods.. in addition to being 15 tons heavier and not mirroring any known Mad Cat equipment configuration.

Likewise, the lighter (55 tons) Mad Cat III was also developed by the Diamond Sharks for sale to both the Clans and the IS forces, while the Mad Cat Mk.IV (occasionally referred to as the "Savage Wolf") is of the same tonnage as the original Mad Cat & was originally a joint project between the Sea Foxes and the Jade Falcons, but became popular among the Wolves.

While they are related in terms of aesthetics and general layout, they are not "the same 'Mech" by any stretch.

"Although no one has yet been able to confirm this, it appears that the Diamond Sharks are now willing to sell unmodified Clan equipment to the Inner Sphere, at least on a limited basis. This would explain why the Clan chose the Mad Cat designation rather than Timber Wolf. If this were true, it would signal a significant shift in attitudes within Clan Diamond Shark. Certainly the fact that the Clan chose to use supplies of outmoded weapons in arming this BattleMech lends credence to this theory." - TRO 3067, pg. 132

There is no such thing as a "Timberwolf II"; Clan and IS alike refer to the 'Mech in question as "Mad Cat Mk.II".
Similarly, the 55-ton relative is always the "Mad Cat III", never "Timber Wolf III". :)
However, the Dark Age 75-tonner may occasionally be referred to as the "Savage Wolf", but it is still officially the "Mad Cat Mk.IV".

Additionally, at least in the case of the Mad Cat Mk II, it is not an Omnimech and was sold to capitalize on the Timber Wolf's reputation. When it failed to draw the attention of significant numbers of Clan buyers, it was remarketed towards the Inner Sphere where it caught on as they hoped.

Much of the same is also true of the Medium-class Mad Cat III, as well - it is also a standard/non-OmniTech 'Mech marketed to both sides (and largely shunned by the Clans, but popular with the IS).

Yes, although the Mk II is versatile and mobile for a 90 tonner...it is not an omni like the Timberwolf.

Which will make it much better than any mechs if they introduce it into MWO. IS mechlab rules with Clan tech, UAC20s, LB-20X, ERLasers, and LRMs or SSRMs. I would feel sorry for the poor ******** that happen to be in-front of that beast.
