All along I have warned canon supporters that the developers could twist weak canon or take advantage of blanks. I feel for the sake of the game being a success among existing MMO, especially those with territory play. They really do need to think out of the box and not mech MechWarrior 5, but make MechWarrior Online. I say this because the way many people talk on this forum is as if they expect a sort of MechWarrior 5. I also feel developers need some room to be creative even if just a little.

The recent developer update states...

10 unique model types

Is this 10 unique to the world of MechWarrior and Battlemech do you think? That is pretty much how I read it. It also states

approximately 40 different chassis at open beta, with new variants added at a very regular pace.

So I'm thinking the other mechs are as expect, the unique ones are a bit new, something to surprise us and advance the series of games a little. Which I'm happy with and look forward to.

What is your opinion?

That would be 10 of the 12 announced mechs, as to the 40 different chassis, that means that there will be 40 variants between the 10 mechs.

if that is the case... everything up to the Cicada should be in by open beta. If this is how it plays out, the Cataphract and Stalker will probably not make it in till full launch. If im understanding this all right?

And they said they was doing it mostly in order, so The Cataphract and the Stalker have to wait a few weeks.

But!

They said they was going to do regular 2 week updates!

The massive amount of mech they are putting into this game at launch is amazing. Eat varrient will have its own special model.

The swayback will have lasers in place of its cannon. And I can only assume the SRM version of the Huncback will have dual SRM launches on each shoulder. (The SRM version was a precourser to the IIC.)

Ah ok I get it now, been so long since I played MW, I'm totally forgetting what a varient is in terms of where and what weapons can be fitted.

This is going to make this MMO very interesting for sure.

Great little program for looking at mechs. Give it a look if you want to see the mechs and variants and load outs, even gives the production dates so you'll know what you have a chance of seeing in game.

Nice very cool.

Is there a web version of this? I would be keen on being part of a project to make a web version with lots of jQuery and Ajax.
