Has anybody tried this combo?

It looks viable. I'm thinking of trying it out on my DD.

JM6-DD

Also, on a sidenote, is there a disadvantage to putting ammo on your CT? It seems that if the enemy has drilled through the CT armor, then the next shot will kill you anyways, regardless of whether you have ammo exploding or not?

CT: You can take a lot of damage to your CT's internal structure before you die - more than you can take to any other component. So, yeah, you want to avoid putting ammo there, BUT!

In the JM6 you link's case, it's less harmful. This is because crits are spread between the engine and two ammo bins, so few crits will actually hit the ammo bins and even then, only 10% to explode when destroyed. Barring AC10/PPC hits, it's going to take a few hits that actually crit a particular bin to destroy it too, so your likelyhood of dying to an ammo explosion in your CT is extremely low. Conversely, putting that ammo in your side torsos would be a worse idea, as there is less crit padding there (= more crits hit ammo bins) and an ammo explosion anywhere in your torso will kill you. May as well put it CT then.

A further consideration, though, is to keep in mind how ammo is consumed. Head, CT, ST's, Arms, Legs. So, put two different types of ammo in your CT. This allows you to burn a bin of each faster, and thus exhaust that ammo earlier in the match reducing the risk to yourself. You want to arrange your ammo so that any you put in a risky location is burned as fast as possible.

Edit: Given twin AC5's and one AC10, I'd put the '10's ammo in your head as it is, and two AC5 tons CT. AC5's are hungry weapons, and you've got two. You'll burn those two tons reasonably quickly.

Wow, thanks, a very informative and in depth answer! Will do as you suggest!

In my opinion this is better http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0671a488ff60d31 i took the armor off of the places that never get destroyed anyway (ive been legged/armed/headshotted less than 10 times after 369 matches in it) and of you really want to stretch it i have gone with 2 UAC/5s+1 AC/20

Probably the weirdest loadout that actually worked is this http://mwo.smurfy-ne...681e0d38828aec0 it actually has somewhat more dakka than you might think since all the fire rates are different.

All this doing it wrong... ;) The Zen of Dakka

It may not be Alpha Striking anything down, but you won't have to sissy foot behind some rock between '20 volleys either. You get up in something's face and stand on the triggers.

Dead 'mech, collect your salvage, move on.

I know this isnt quite the build that the topic is about but i wanted to say that i used this effectively for a long time. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...af1262ce9d79aa9 One of my personal favorite STD engine builds.

IMO better off with the S and 4mL than machine guns.
JM6-S-2UAC/5-4mL

Could drop 1 DHS and 1 ton of UAC ammo and add 2 machine guns and a ton of ammo.

I've found 3x AC5 builds to work very well with the multi-balistic Jagers. Not sure if the extra weight, the mixed ammo types, and having to keep track of the different range/arm is really worth the trouble of the extra punch of the AC10.

In fact, I might argue that with damage fall off on every shot outside of 420m, you're probably doing the same or less damage with that AC10 than you would with an AC5 on average. It's super boring, but boating one consistent type of weapon is effective for a reason.

The DD is good for more fun builds though. I love my dumb crit seeker mobile with 2 LBX, 4 MGS, and 2 MLAS. An embarrassment of dakka that performs better than it has any right to.

To your comment about the crit seeker id like to say that you can go to AC10s and MPLs easily.Just take off some leg armor the max ive ever actually needed was 29.

Same for arms.

Yeah im actually a huge fan of MG's i like the extra crits and IS damage and the range doesnt bother me since i like to be close enough to count the pilot's nose hairs when i kill him.
