I hope you won't mind me posting here instead of creating a new topic. Seemed like the best place for it.
This morning, I was grinding some matches for the Locust 1V(P) tournament. My build has an ERLL and 2 MGs, so I was hoping to get some longer range maps. After getting 15 of either River Cities or Bogs in a row, and got another Bog Assault, I was feeling pretty frustrated and didn't have high expectations for the match. I just ran to the northernmost sniper hill in the middle and took lazy potshots to any enemies I happened to see, not really paying much mind about what was happening.
The fight turned out to be surprisingly even, going steadily from 2-2 to 3-3, 5-6, 7-7, all the way to 9-10. My last remaining team member got a lock on a Thunderbolt climbing the hill toward me. He was pretty beat up, so I decided to just face him, blasting away with my trusty Machine Guns. My friend down the hill was also shooting at the 'Bolt, who luckily had to torso twist instead of killing me, and I managed to core him before he could land a shot on me. Unfortunately, my friend down the hill was killed at the same time.
So, I was alone in my sniper Locust against 2 unknown enemies, on a very brawly map.
I peeked down the hill. There was an enemy King Crab, practically undamaged, with Dual Gauss and Streaks, glancing around for the last survivor of our team, me. My dead(!) team members graciously informed me that the other remaining enemy mech was a nearly cored Grasshopper, and when I saw the 'Hopper approaching the Crab, I just decided to go for it and jumped off the hill. I ran straight to the Grasshopper. Targeting info confirmed that the Grasshopper was almost cored from both RT and CT, so I danced around him in my Locust, trying to keep the Grasshopper between me and the King Crab, who was only 200m away. The Grasshopper torso twisted furiously and survived at least 15 seconds under constant MG fire with a couple ERLL beams every now and then when my heat levels went under 80%. When he died, I realized I had no plan whatsoever for the situation that I actually survived that. So, with my heat levels going through the roof, right next to an angry and very much armed King Crab, I did what every good Locust pilot does: I ran like my life depended on it.
It took me about 10 seconds to calm down and figure out where the hell I was. I decided to return clockwise to my base, hugging the northernmost wall, all the while looking for that King Crab. I got to the base without seeing a glimpse of him. I kept on going the edges of the map, now from the south side.
You haven't felt true fear in MWO before you've been put in a map with a fresh Gauss+Streak KGC in a ERLL Locust, and have no idea where that Crab is. Knowing that he only needs one hit to kill you. Your whole team having eyes on your every move, commenting on every turn you take. Just tons of smoking hot mech remains in every direction you look.
I finally found the KGC, and luckily from the rear. He was heading for our base, apparently deciding that it's the more reliable way to win the match than try to hunt me down in an Assault mech. Makes sense. I got a few good shots in before he turned and I had to switch places. I now knew where he was, so I went around the hills and trees, taking pot shots on him. It was going very slowly, he was barely hurting. So, I left him on his own for a while. As you would expect, he got to our base and started to take down the turrets. Now, the turrets gave me the targeting info I needed, and I saw both his position and facing on the minimap, making it much easier to flank him safely.
Eventually, he pushed into the base with more force, probably trying to get capping the base so that I'd be forced to come out or lose. However, the turrets firing at him gave me perfect distraction to blast away my ERLL from the side, about 500m away. He only noticed me after he had destroyed the turrets, and at this point his CT was already open. I was running out of time, so instead of running and hiding, I decided to settle this right there and then, and danced back and forth as erratically as I could, with his Gauss slugs whizzing by both sides of my Locust. Five or Six laser beams later the beast finally fell down on it's face, with my Locust still in near perfect condition.
It was probably the most adrenaline pumped 5 minutes I've had in the game.
I honestly had to take a 15 minute break before I could play another match.
Locust 1V(P), you're a pretty terrible mech, but I still love you. Thanks go to the team, too.
