I think they did something to the way heat dmg is dealt. Today I killed myself due to dmg from overheat to my head. Yesterday I noticed that one of my arms turned red. All ofc without the loss of armor.
So it seems that with this change heat dmg will be dealt to a single random location.
Note that only 2 med-lasers sufficed to kill myself (Jenner), I didn't alpha on 100% heat...
Can someone confirm this? Or is it some kind of bug?

Never seen or heard of that before myself...however I can confirm 9x9 coolshot ftw.

Okay, on testing grounds its the same deal.
All dmg goes to a single random location
Head and leg seem to have extremely low health (1-3? med lasers), while CT as well as ST can take "regular" (heat)dmg.
I'm not sure how deadly this is on bigger mechs, but on my Jenner override is Russian-roulette even if the amount of heat is very small. (head=dead)

Remember the override increases damage a couple times over when compared to shutdown. I can't remember is it was 200% or 400%...but those numbers come to mind.

Oh, I know, on my laser Jenner, heat and override/heatdmg is nothing new to me.
Unless you do like an 90-100% override and then alpha, it hurts (your CT) but it doesn't kill if you shoot only 1-3 lasers.
But now it are random locations and apparently my head/legs can take less dmg then my CT/ST.

If the heat hits your head, you're dead.
That is your gamble to take.
Otherwise you are better off shutting down and taking the CT heat penalty.

I use override constantly, but only to feather 100% heat. I do find that it's russian roulette to use override to ignore heat significantly past 100% even once in a Jenner.

overriding shutdown should be russian roulette in any mech.

Yeah, I don't ever really use it unless I'm already surrounded and losing bits rapidly. Then I punch O and mash the buttons for as long as I have left.

The override damage mechanic is stupid. It should apply damage evenly to all of your internals at perhaps 50% of the rate that it does now. As it stands, overriding is rolling the dice and probably dying.

Don't get me wrong here, I don't mind the change, would have been nice to get some kind of announcement though.
And it would, have helped if people test the change instead of saying its a good one.
Btw still don't know if its a balance tweak or a bug.

that is how it is supposed to work
I will see if I can find the original post again but they posted about this when they implemented the change
When you overheat and perform an override it will cook internal components and will not damage armor
The component is randomly selected I think
