In continuing to add flavour to different weapon types it would be interesting to see different weapon types carry a different chance of causing an ammo explosion when crit'ing an ammo bin. Lasers, PPCs, and flamers could carry a bonus against ammo bins (Flamers 100% chance?). Numbers, and whether a weapon would carry this bonus to be set for balance.
On another note, ammo explosions are too few and far between, they just aren't something I am afraid of. I can't remember the last time I suffered one in fact.

The reason ammo explosions are so rare is because people strategically place their ammo in legs, center torso, and head in order to prevent ammo explosions. Another thing that adds to the lack of ammo explosions is the tendency for people to aim center mass, meaning they kill the mech before and ammo explosion goes off. I can tell you that playing some stock mechs that have the ammo in the torsos and torso twisting, that most my deaths in such a situation are due to an ammo explosion since I did nothing in my build to prevent it.

Yes - Gauss ammo should not explode - I completely agree.
That said, ammo explosions should do more damage. I'm sorry, but when I hit a pack of 200 missiles and they go boom they need to do more than 2 points of damage. They should annihilate their host mech.

They do... 200 SRMs would do 400 damage when exploding essentially annihilating the host mech. The only thing that prevents this is case while using a STD engine. It takes a bit of time for the ammo explosion to cook off, kind of like irl. I've watch an ammo explosion take almost 4 seconds before it killed the host mech, but it did kill the host mech.

with BT TT rules, but not in MWO. I know - I had a completely unused stock of LRM ammo hit and destroyed (Betty was kind enough to tell me that I'd run out) but my Commando was still standing. No way a 25 ton mech survived 196 point ammo explosion.

Ammo doesn't always explode when destroyed (just like IRL). Here, I think it is something like a 10 percent chance. When it does explode, it does massive damage. A single ton of ammo will kill pretty much any mech since it bypasses armor. You've been here long enough you should know that.

eh? No I didn't know that. I thought when ammo was destroyed it went boom.
****, now I gotta go get shot in the ammo and test this out.
