as soon as i get past the login screen my gpu usage jumps up to 50% even though the only thing thats being redered is some images and a bit of text (fps is capped via vsync and i also tried capping it with afterburner), and if i set it on high or medium graphics the game keeps on crashing my display driver on the menu, as soon as it restarts it crashes again in a mere 2 seconds, but the strange thing is that it doesnt do so instatly like after i log in i can roam around the menu for 10-20 seconds, its like theres some sorta leak.

am running the latest AMD driver and my gpu is a 6870 HD.

I hope that there is a workaround or fix for my problem, i'm a huge mechwarrior fan and i'd really love to try this game.

Mechlab tends to run hot, but have you also submitted a support ticket with a DXDiag attached to let PGI look into it further? Good luck with resolution.

what is your monitor refresh rate? 60hz vs 120hz vs ??? are quite different vsync beasts! thanks for the feedback!

It kinda sounds like you might have a heat issue with your card. Try stress testing it with FurMark.

For others cursing their screaming gpus there's a halfway workaround for menu screen that doesn't have ingame fps loss like vsync: adaptive vertical sync. I don't know about AMD, but with Nvidia you can turn this on for MWO from Nvidia control panel -> Manage 3D settings. What it does is simply apply vsync when your fps is over 60 (and therefore limits the gpu use in menu), and refrains when synchronization would cause further fps loss.

I've also noticed the game continues to abuse gpu resources even when it tells you've been logged out due to inactivity. IMO at that screen the rendering should have been paused at least. At its current state, MWO causes global warming. If there's no fix soon, I will start spreading rumours PGI is using our computers for bitcoin farming.
