Cant deny im a ORION "fanboy" but thats what I would pick, its so flexible also if you dont know what weapon you want.

uh, dragons are actually giant money sinks, you need ferro, endo-steel, double heatsinks, as well as a monster XL engine to be "effective"

So do most mechs, give or take an XL.

However the problem is most Dragons, even after all that, are terrible. The only good one is the pay-only Flame, so you almost never see it around. Flame is solid though.

i cant decide which mech to get?!?!?

I'd highly recommend you start with either a Cataphract or a Shadow Hawk. I know this is the Heavy mech guide but if you are new, EITHER chassis will offer you a wide selection of configurations and setups, while both being quality 'mechs that will last you right on into competitive play if you want.

Have to throw my lot in with the Jager crowd. I own every mech thats been discussed here, and while I love my Cat's; own the hero, dig the looks, appreciate that they were in teh very first build of this game; (among the first released screenshots in fact)...

they are fragile. I'll get flak for that from someone, but veterans will tell you teh same. Cat's are very squishy. Makes good numbers in them even more impressive however.

Dragons and quickdraws take a lot of skill to do well in.
Jagers are some of the most fragile mechs in the game.
Cataphracts are hard for new players because of the low arms.

For someone not so experienced I'd def steer them towards catapults or orions.

With more Orions in my inventory, I must say it's amazing to have a standard engine heavy that can do so much.

I've become an Onion-Mech fan.

Doom Kitty:

2 weapons groups for the big guns, medium on it's own, wait one second between bursts and employ cover...much fun!
