Alright - I'll be the stick in the mud.
It's from the game Skyrim.

One of the oft-repeated NPC comments is a character who tells you that he was an adventurer like you until he took an arrow to the knee.

Thems that played the game (I haven't) have heard it so often that it's damaged their brains, leading to the meme fest which has ensued.

They dont even say it so much ingame at all and some people who spam the meme didnt even play the game at all, is basically other over used to dead "joke" like "the cake is a lie"
