On a 1 to 10 scale, I can't rate MWO any higher than a 6 in it's current state. Not because it's a bad game, but because it lacks the traditional MW components I enjoyed most. I've been playing MechWarrior since mech 2, and I've played every release and expansion since. In all of that time, online competitive play was the least interesting aspect to me, and I rarely played that way. I want to play MechWarrior with a storyline and PvE missions. As a real bonus, I want to be able to do PvE cooperative missions and challenges with my friends. As it stands today I think MechWarrior is a pretty well implemented and faithful addition to the MechWarrior franchise, but the big failure for me is that it is 100% a pvp grind flipping between 2 game modes and a handful of maps. meh.

And this is helpful to new players how? I think you wanted the Feedback section.

For future reference, posing it in the correct section not only makes it more likely to be seen by the intended audience, it also prevents people from thinking if he can't post correctly, why should we take his opinion on the subject seriously?

I agree with Nick on this one -- definitely wrong forum.

The devs have said they want to do a PvE storyline, but it's so far down the development road it's not even on the map yet.

Hopefully the CW coming in will make the game more varietal with more gamemodes, maps, etc. Just give it time, I'd say maybe up till 2015 before singleplayer. I really want it and I did plan out a few situations I might post later on (whenever I complete the giant post, I'm actually using word because it's so long. I'll link it here when I finish and post.) BTW, this should go in the maps and modes section of general discussion.

The game does need a better meta, but what they've provided glimpses of appears to be just over the horizon, so the multi-player meta should be a lot of fun.

MWO is in the f2p online mode because ignorant fools in the game publisher business couldn't see past the end of their noses to provide the necessary backing to make another installment in the way we're used to getting them.

This was made worse by the fact that a Triple-A single/multiplayer title like the previous MW video games has gotten beyond obscenely expensive to make.

For instance, in one of the no guts no galaxy podcasts one of the developers stated that it takes them more than 40,000 to get a new mech into the game.

PGI tried to pitch the idea to all of the major game publishing houses and apparently got all sorts of mental midget reasons as to why the publishers wouldn't back it. Mostly because MS wouldn't allow it to be pushed out onto the playstation console, is what I gather killed that route.

You're saying that you feel MWO is mediocre because it isn't a different kind of game. That's a nonsensical proposition, even for a subjective opinion. It is also utterly inappropriate for a forum topic designed to help new players learn the game.
