I would like to be able o still set attack points, waypoints, etc. after death. Even without a spectate mode it's good to have someone giving waypoints and watching the battle as a while instead of during a firefight

It's not as useful as you'd think. People don't really pay attention to the command map, and the few that do don't always follow it.
The best thing to do as unit commander is to spec other teammates and try to provide as much useful Intel through chat.

Soooooooooooo you don't like the idea because people don't listen? You must play with some bad teams. I usually find teamwork is welcome on mine

it seems PGI wants to limit the amount of usefulness a dead player can be.
I agree with it, would not like to see it changed much at all tbh.

My only experience of "Commanders" is them moving people around for no real reason other than to separate people from whom they drop with.

In this universe you don't die (mostly) when your mech is destroyed. You are being ejected in a secure pod. Therefore I think commanders still should be able to give commands until they leave session.

An interesting idea - but I voted No.
After they've ejected, the Commander should draw their sidearm and then pose raggedly next to the smoking wreckage of their Mech.
