I have been playing War Thunder and it has a simple but great game machanic I realy like and think it would work realy well in MWO. In War Thunder you can field a new plane from your hanger into the game once you die in combat. I think it would make a good game type for MWO, especially for PUGs or lone wolvies.
For this game type (or given as a type of lone wolf or a lance contract in the meata game?) you have a personal weight limit along with a set number of slots to fill for a single or in mutable games. This can open up a lot of options. Here are some ideas I had on how this could work.
One example could be a contract, or a game type, where you can have a limit of two slots to fill with one or two mechs, with a total combined mech weight restriction of no more than 100 tons per person. So you will have the choice to bring ether one big mech, say a one 100 ton Atlas, or bring two smaller mechs, like two 50 ton Hunchbacks . So if lose the Atlas, you are out of the game. However if you lose one of the Hunchbacks you have the option to drop back into the game with the second Hunchback, but only after a time delay and a fine to your end game credits. Teams could prevent these extra drops capturing the opposing team's home base. Once a team losses the home base they lose access to all remaining reinforcements. At least until they can capture it back.
Another way it could work is you can get 3 slots and the drop is spread over the course of 3 games, 1 drop per game. You get extra c-bills at the end of all 3 games.
Or we could have limits on the number of mech classes you can take into the match, for example here is 4 slots a set max of 1 assalt, 2 heavies, 3 mediums and 4 lights on top of the tonnage limit. It would realy encourage the use of lighter mechs. So on a drop you can have 1 assalt with 3 lights or instead have 2 heavies with 1 medium.
To enchorge different mech types in the drops you could change the tonnage per match or per week or it could be equal to the total tonnage of all the current trial mechs
Yes, know there is a number of problems for this game type. Like there will be those who will kamikaze once they run put of ammo or take too much damage. So to prevent this have a c-bills bonus for the total number of tonnage of any mechs that has not dropped at the end of a match. A bonus is only added if current mech is still alive at the end of the game and to stop any cheaters you will not get a bonus if there is a disconnect or if the mech is powered down for a extended time.
If you what to go on the contract route you could open them to bidding in the meata game. You can have the option of adding in contract clauses or bonses. Bonses could be extra c-bills for dropping under the tonnage limit or dropping without filling all the empty slots, tiny bit like the drop limits in mech commander.
Or having clauses that cause fines, like the droping of all of the reserve mechs or going over the set weight limits.
What do you think, I am not saying we get rid of the lance drop weight limits or that this should replace them, but rather this an stand alone or extra game type. Or make it a merc contract/game type for the meta game.
Please remember before going nuts, this is just an suggestion! If you like the idea what do you think would be the best number of drop slots and weight should be per game?

Something similar has been planned for a long time. Initially proposed as a "dropship mode", it's essentially that: Players can select up to a certain number of mechs within a given total tonnage and bring them to a battle. Basically, a limited respawn mode.

As Winter said, Dropship mode is (was?) supposed to be like this, at least in my interpretation of it. It really SHOULD be implemented, but if we're getting a new mode this week that's (official) TDM, I'm happy there for now.
Still want CW and such though.

Regarding the class limits, I believe the most recent thing I read about "Dropship" mode said that it required each pilot to have four of the same 'Mech class. If you wanted to use a heavy, then all of the 'Mechs you bring need to be heavies. If your buddy wanted to use a light, all of his 'Mechs need to be lights.
