Welcome to MechWarrior Online, do enjoy laughing at Paul, oogling the new Mech designs, and demanding that PGI shut up and take your money!

(Throwing your credit card at your monitor and/or ethernet cord does no good. Neither does sticking it into your cd/dvd/blu ray slot of your computer. TRUST ME ON THIS, I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES!)

Less people mean less people to play with you too. XD

I'm OK with more people after it goes live. I want in the beta. ;)

It also keeps people like me from trolling the pony stuff, and we dont want the new peoples to see that now do we. ;)

LoL! you guys are awesome. Cheers for the warm welcome ^_____^

So, I was poking around and found out that my faves, The Shadowcat and the Madcat won't be making it into this game because it's PRE-Clan invasion?
Kinda disappointed but not disheartened because it's mechwarrior and the core gameplay is still there (like the mechlab loadouts, LRM/SRM, Heat sinks+Jump Jets etc etc).
I was also thrilled to find out there will be persistence on the map.. Heavily anticipating another game called Planetside 2, which also has persistent base captures (and a veteran of the first one) It just makes this game all the more exciting for me to have all of my favourite game mechanics all mixed into one enjoyable experience.

So, if the clans haven't invaded yet, i suppose the inner sphere doesn't exist yet either? who are the good guys and who are the baddies? and what are they fighting over? sorry, it's probably been asked before, but my knowledge of mechwarrior lore is a little fuzzy and i don't know where to go to find this information.

last question, I'm not a big fan of the heavy mechs that stand up like people and am more in favour of the medium mechs that kinda look crouched with turkey legs. are there any (or planned to be any) mechs that even remotely resemble the shadowcat in this game?

Thanks in advance ^_____^

Oh, by the way, just to chime in on my thoughts, I saw those founder packs for sale.. $60 is a little steep for a beta tag, XP boost and beta key in my honest opinion.. I dare say I shall pass on it and enjoy the game once beta testing is over.. I know this game is going to be free and i am extremely thankful to the creators for their hard work and i will probably purchase in-game items if they make a store to show my gratitude but I feel that the founder pack may be another way of accepting donations instead of purchasing of equal value goods.. Just a thought.. please don't flame me.. I'm just a stupid noob.. *braces for his inevitable stoning*

Oh man.. Just found out about this by pure luck and may never have found out about it existing..

I used to play MW3 and MW4 every day for HOURS online back when it was on the msn gaming zone!

Those were the days =DD

If any of the mods of this forum can get a word out to the marketing devision of this game's publisher, PLEASE, MORE/BETTER ADVERTISING! I might never have seen this dream come true if not for me spending 5 hours reading game articles..

So psyched for this =D glad i'm not too late for the release, i can wait through beta if need be..

Thanks!

Also you can NOT have any clan mech as they do not exist. ;)

Hi all

I suggest reading these http://mwomercs.com/...s/forum/67-qas/ The answer ones anyway, not much point in reading the question only ones :)

These are also good.

And if you are thinking of posting a question in the forum, please use the search function.

Some people are touchy about that here :P

Just responding to the first part... I have little doubt the Timber Wolf (MadCat) will make it in, IF Clans become playable by PCs. I'm also hoping the Shadowcat makes it in myself (as are many others) as it is one of the best mechs in the game, and distinctive. Based on the devs own comments, the Clan Invasion is a year away. The game is current set in 3048 and will be in 'real-time'. The Clan's invaded the Periphery in 3049)... whether they will be NPC only is open for debate, but I don't think the devs want to have NPC-only Clanners. Plus, trials and batchalls will add another layer to the game (both action-wise, skill-wise, and strategy-wise).

No flames, if you can't afford it, no one can fault you for that. We'll be waiting for you when it goes live (or if they still give out non-Founder beta keys and you are selected).

As for good guys and bad guys... all in the eyes of the beholder, my friend. A case can be made for any of the Houses being bad or good.

Davion (Fed Suns/FedCom) = German/American-ish government. These were the 'golden' boys in the Stackpole novels... shiny white halo. Over the years, I just think of them as the most twinky (barring the Clans). Probably the most powerful House (on its own), also a huge economy.
Steiner (Lyran Commonwealth/FedCom) = German government. This group joined with House Davion when the ruler (Hanse Davion) married the Lyran's daughter. Later on, the Davion/Steiner group have a lot of internal politics that split them up. Real juicy politics-wise.
Kurita (Draconis Combine) = Japanese-style government. Honorable warriors, but also somewhat single minded through Bushido... always obey the Emperor (leader/ruler). In my opinion, the most interesting house... plus, they'll also play a major part in the battle with the Clans (along with Steiner/FedCom and FRR). They can be a dangerous and hated foe, or your best ally.
Free Rasalhague Republic (FRR) = Nordic government. Split from... DC (I think) to become an independent state because they did not like how they were treated by DC. If I remember, it was also assisted by Steiner to create a buffer between Steiner and Kurita.
Liao (Cappellan Confederation) = Korean government. This is a tough one. Portrayed as being ruled by insane leaders in the Stackpole novels and somewhat bumbling tacticly (or tricked by Davion at every turn). Although their forces are the most concentrated because they have the smallest 'size' compared to most other Houses except for FRR but more powerful than FRR because it has been around longer and is more established. This is about the only House might consider truly evil, although I think that has more to do with their previous leaders than their actual Mechwarriors.
Marik (Free Worlds League) = Representative Democracy/European. Generally, not really involved in the wars and their leader was also somewhat insane during the Fourth Succession War. Sort of like the Sweden of the Inner Sphere... no one bothered them and they didn't bother anyone. Not that there weren't border conflicts, but not anywhere near as much as each of the other Houses with each other. Also probably the largest economy (from what you can glean from the books, but doesn't really seem to help their military).

This is very basic understanding... and I'm sure other can correct me (feel free).

There is little permanence in this title currently and the few official words on future content does not suggest much either. At least not in the same form of persistence in PS2.
ISN newscasts stating the state of affairs in the IS have been going on since the beginning of the forums and the only system truely known or implemented yet.
Some info of the concept they would like is outlined here but even that is of a different style of persistence -and- scope:
http://mwomercs.com/...munity-warfare/

As much as I would love a living Battletech universe, this is not going to be one as it seems thus far. Considering there has been no talk of or in-game implementation other than that one blog entry, it would seem even that system is not in yet. The time line for betas and release is pushing the limit of getting something other than core combat and basic matchmaking in unlikely either.

Don't forget that this is a Mechwarrior title and the focus is on the 'mechs and the combat. The concept posited could add some extra reason to playing and variety but overall I doubt it will be much of a factor other than friendly competition between roleplaying groups. Bonuses noted for loyalty and seizures may not do much more than shave some grind time off of saving for another chassis but not much else. Devs have already stated that there will be no loss whatsoever of any acquired item so there does not seem to be much reason to horde in-game resources.

I would love to be proven wrong. This is just what I have seen so far from the Devs n Pubs themselves -- that being "my father's Mechwarrior", just finally updated and doing justice to the combat of the original game system it was born from. Replaces an interesting bit of story and objectives through a single player campaign with some daily lore and "power struggle map" partially driven by multiple players.

About the MechAssault blahblahs:
Nothing wrong with someone being introduced into the franchise through another branch of the tree. They may end up liking the main deal more and then there would be one more great 'warrior to battle or befriend. I agree it was not a great branch of the whole but again, my previous statement stands.

Kindly answer or correct their misinformation then point them in the right direction of where to brush up on stuff as an upthread post linking to a good "newbie start here 411" thread.
Paul and maybe a few others has caused too many people to become armed with anti-troll weaponry and detectors that I fear some may be seeing phantom readings on their scopes with itchy trigger-fingers a tad too poised.
